The Master Cleanse - Myth or Miracle?

Systematic Scare Tactics
------------------------
Parasites. Toxins. Pounds of backed-up fecal matter stewing in your
intestines. These are the common reasons the manufacturers of colon
cleansers give you to buy their product. Is your fear justified? Or
are you simply being manipulated?

Colon cleanse websites like Blessed Herbs, HPS Online, and Dr. Natura,
which sells the popular "Colonix" product, contain photo galleries
designed to panic the viewer. Accompanied by quotes like, "I can't
believe this came out of me," these visual testimonials are some of
the most effective advertising I've ever seen. But effective
advertising doesn't necessarily indicate an effective product, as
consumers too often forget.
Achieving Enlightenment
-----------------------

I agree, the prospects are frightening. But before you fork over
hundreds of dollars and sacrifice countless hours with your behind
glued to the toilet seat, think skeptically for a moment:
I start taking this product.

I start passing odd-looking stools.
The logician's immediate reaction would be, what you're putting in
your body is, in fact, creating the foul bowel movements.

Browse those picture galleries one more time, then take a critical
look at a diagram of your large intestine, such as the cross-section
shown at right. The shape is remarkably similar. And since when did
your stools have a consistancy that allowed them to be hooked over a
newspaper or plastic spoon?
Before you write me off as a conspiracy theorist, try this experiment:
Take a glass and fill it 1/4 full of water. Add several tablespoons of
Metameucil powder, or several of their capsules. Stir and let sit for
a day or two. The mixture will settle, then gradually begin to form
into a gel, which takes the shape of the glass.

You know what's coming next. Check your favorite colon cleanse
product's list of ingredients. More likely than not, one of the first
on the list will be some form of psyllium husk, which is, you guessed
it, the main component of Metameucil, and many other fiber
supplements.

When the spokesperson on the Dual Action Cleanse infomercial tells you
he's spent years developing the perfect formula, he's not lying. He
has created the perfect formula, but not for cleaning your colon.
Colon cleanse products are painstakingly designed to produce visible,
horrifying results that will induce the consumer to buy again, and
again, and again. Customer satisfaction skyrockets, but does customer
health?

The fact is, our bodies are very well designed, whether by an
omnipotent Creator or by millenia of evolution, and the colon does its
job pretty efficiently on its own. There are cases, like cancer,
polyps, and IBS, where additional treatment is necessary, but in
general, if you're eating enough fiber and drinking enough water, the
most you'll ever need to take in the way of colon cleansing is a
simple fiber supplement. And as you can see above, psyllium husk on
its own is pretty darn cheap!
So don't waste your money, your time, or your peace of mind. Read up
on how to fit more fiber into your diet, pick out a supplement from
the list above, and try to appreciate the magical workings of your
body. It's the only one you've got.

I've always been suspicious of those myself. I also read that many
include clay, which is not good for you. They market it as a "colonic
in a bottle". But colonics aren't good for you either.

I think the sooner we get over our shit stinking (pardon the
language), the sooner nonsense products like these will go away.
I agree - regular, cheap fiber is "nature's broom".

Good Hub Maddie! The side-by-side comparison is VERY effective. Can
you do one on juicing? That is also supposed to cleanse.

Just don't forget to drink plenty of water when you (slowly) up your
fiber intake. Good points Maddie--and, I'm totally stealing that
side-by-side comparison idea!

Hi.

You make some very good points. I too have felt scammed by products
such as Colonix & Dual Action Cleanse. Colonix is the oldest scam in
the book. Just like you state above, the pictures are NOT impacted
fecal matter, it's the psyllium that has formed a gel. I did the same
experiment with the Colonix & Glass trick.
I don't beleive they are all scams. If used properly, they can be very
beneficial. Of course, when does one cross the "excessive-use" line?
Products like Dual Action Cleanse and Colonix give decent cleansing
formulas a bad name. In fact, Dual Action Cleanse refused to give me
my money back when I complained.

My aunt studied to be an RN(has since gotten a masters degree in this
field) and I occasionally would browse through some of her
material...One book that held particular interest for me was a book
that described a liquid diet to cleanse the bowels. This book showed
graphic pictures similiar to the ones you are referring to that you
claim are used to "sell" a product...well this book I read was'nt
selling anything and was for educational/informative purposes. This
book also said that the feces would take on this shape because this
waste material had been in the system so long it had taken on the
shape of the intestines. Forgive me for not knowing the name of this
book but this was 12 years ago...

I do agree that some narsty looking stuff can come out of you...
that's not the point. The point is, these people are recording bowel
movements of this sort for weeks and weeks at a time. There is no way
all of that could fit inside you, along with the normal fecal matter
accumulated from your everyday diet. In addition, I meant to point out
that the active ingredients of these "cleanses" can be had at a much
lower price, and are clearly not worth the markup as some sort of
"miracle product." As you mentioned, fruit fasts and liquid diets
(which should always be conducted under medical supervision) achieve
similar results for a fraction of the price.

Thanks for thinking critically.

Thank goodness for sites like this. For the second night in a row I
got nailed by a 4 am infomercial on TV, and this, with the "Dual
Action Cleanse" I was just about to cave in and go for it. This one at
least has web site. But getting to this site I couldn't find any
testimonials neither lay or medical. This got me here.

I was interested in a colon cleanse because I "slowed down" six years
ago (I am now 64) for some reason. I suspect my thyroid has something
to do with it and am taking kelp and L-tyrosine supplements. I think
this is helping to reestablish normal lubrication. Fiber supplemt
basically does the rest. I vary the regiiment of a tablespoon a day in
a random way, a few days running here and there. So basically I am OK.
But I wanted to reduce dependency and get some of the touted health
benifits along wiht "detoxification.".
I'll give a testimonial here. If you're taking the fiber for the first
time, you can get som pretty astounding (ah, and gratifying!) results.
And Ifromt he lookl of the stool oftentimesI believe the filber
cleanses the intestinal rather wall.

Again thanks for all the commentary here.

Hi Maddie, Thanks so much for your site. America seems to be very
preoccupied with their bums and what is coming out of them. I'm a
medical student and we are taught that technically constipation is
when a person has less than 3 stools a week. Most people have a
misconception about what constitutes normal bowel habits and will do
anything (many times to the detriment of their health) to keep
"regular".Thanks for keeping people educated b/c the best patient is
an informed one.

Although I do agree that many of these cleansers may be scamming you,
my own personal experience with YERBA PRIMA was different. Their colon
cleansing formula consists of two elements. One of them is the blend
of psyllium husk with other herbal conituents. The other is KALENITE,
a blend of actual cleansing and toning herbs. Although this is simply
my own experience, trust me when I say that what was coming out of me
was not simply psyllium. If you are willing (and have the stomach) to
read about the variety of characteristics of fecal matter and observe
what's coming out of you, I think one course of Kalenite and Yerba
Prima Colon Cleanse (which by the way ain't no where near as expensive
as some of those cited here) would make a healthier and wiser believer
of you.

It's crucial to have a diet high in fibre whether it be from the daily
intake of the foods consumed or from an inexpensive fibre supplement.
The fact remains that these "wonder cures" are rather expensive and
are marketed in a way to exploit the ignorant. Have to say that I
agree with Maddie on this one. Off topic but take a Liver Flush for
example: Epsom Salts + Olive oil = $1 It'd be fairly hard to market a
product with these two 'active' ingredients for more than $10. I'm
sure there are other liver cleansers out there with a large range of
not so usefull herbs and herbal extracts that do sell for over $50 and
do just as good a job for that matter. Check here and decide for
yourself - http://curezone.com/cleanse/liver/huldasrecipe.as - It's a
pretty informational site on the whole butt I wouldn't get too hyped
up over it because a lot of the regulars there are militant on nature
being able to cure everything without the use of synthesis eg.
Superdoses of Vitamin A (isotretinoin) cures ACNE.... blah blah
blah... Like a broken record: Eat a balanced diet. Exercise regularly.
Exercise more if you prefer the sculpted body look which seems to be
so omnipotent in todays society. Drink water too. It's like everything
in life, you get out what you put in. And in closing I can assure you
that if you don't eat, you don't shit, and if you don't shit you die.
CHEAP AND INEXPENSIVE - http://www.colonblow.com/ - read the
testimonials.

I completely agree with your sentiments on a balanced diet and the
importance of hydration, however I have to warn readers that I would
not recommend Colon Blow. Any good safety software will tell you as
soon as you click the link that they send out spam galore! A good
product advertises itself. Spam is for scammers.

I'd also like to note that not everybody can achieve what you call
"the sculpted body look." Weight is about as heritable as height,
genetically. No matter how much some people exercise, they will never
look anywhere close to the likes of Heidi Klum or Tyson Bedford. And
who's to say whether or not those people should be our ultimate
standards of beauty or not?
Anyway, thanks for reading and thinking critically.

sadly, i have to agree! I thought i finally found the miracle plan in
a product called COLONIX from Drnatutra.com.
the claim was if you suffered from constipation, IBS, severe gas and
bloating, weight gain, chronic fatigue, acid reflux, parasites,
stomach pain, diverticulitis, skin and hair problems and many other
common ailments. That the Colonix program would put an end to the
suffering by becoming clean inside. I suffered from everything on that
list and I amazed my the testimonials & photos on the website.

review after review claimed hair was growing, skin glowing, stomach
flatter, weight loss, large ropes of Mucuid Plaques from my intestl
walls & much much much more. they even have a 1-800 number you can
call if need assistance.
I thought to myself, all of these testimonials cant be lying...no way!
this stuff has got to work...so i was hooked and i bought a box of
colonix..i was so excited! I took the stuff and everyday day i kept
waiting for a change, days went by, weeks went by. I did exactly what
i was supposed to and I up'd mywater intake, which i think caused a
diahria effect.

all i got was a soft to running stool and VERY painful cramps. Yes, I
did eliminate more than usual but that was ony when i dranked the tea
te night before, which i found out was nothing but a laxative. im so
disappointed.
I thought

where's the large ropes MB that saw on their site. I didnt get one
rope. This is gross but everytime i have a BM I raced to the stool to
see if i would get one of those large ropes of waste that was stuck
onto my colon walls for years. I figured i would have at least 5 to 10
pounds worth, and that would be the cause of some of the weight loss
and flatter tummy but it didnt happened.
The only redeeming quality was the fact that it had a parasite cleaner
bottle with the program. And i do know that the body has parasites or
at least some people do because i saw a scary vidoe of parasites
inside a colon on youtube and freaked me out!

When i took the colonix i never saw any in my stool but the
testimonials on the site claimed they saw em in theirs. in a sick
kinda way i wanted to see them in my stool too just to say the product
worked and im cleansed but i saw nothing so guess its a good thing.
As far as the reviews & testimonies claming they saw worms in the
stool, I think because people's awareness was raised, they were paying
more attention and simply seeing undigested seeds, corn and the like,
strands of fruit/vegetables and thought them to be worms..

Anyways, i complained to another colon cleanse buddy and she said the
point was never to lose weight, see ropes , clear skin or get a flat
tummy but to get cleanse internally for a month. I guess she's right
but i'm not FULLY sure that i'm cleansed or not.
i'm very disappointed in this product and i feel like a fool for
falling for it but i had to at least try.

Oh well, instead of buying a $100 colon cleanse program i'll just
drink plenty of water and take fiber supplement which is only about 7
or 8 bucks, but it sure whadda mean nice if the other stufff really
worked. oh well!
Sorry for any errors and or spellings, im in a big hurry so i dont
have time to proof read or fix this letter post. please for me.

i am not sure if this is anyting like what you are talking about but,
recently my mom had to have a hysterectomy and the Dr told her the day
before to drink this clear liquid in a bottle from target and I
believed it cleaned her out. She was absolutely miserable and stuck to
to the toilet for about 16 hours. The bottle of stuff cost about $3.

I disagree. Take a look at the results people experience after a
regimen of frequent colonics. They're only using water therapy to
cleanse the colon and the stuff that comes out looks exactly like what
you get from using treatments like Colonix.

Fact is, Colonix works - I can personally attest to this after buying
the product for my wife and daughter. Believe me, it worked. A 3-ft
long segmented tapeworm and other various nasties pretty much
convinced me. I'm trying it now, and nothing dramatic has happened.
So....it obviously does work for those who need it. If nothing
happened for you, then you're pretty clean to begin with. Pretty
simple, really. Having a degree in chemical engineering, I can tell
you that a lot of materials, especially of organic nature, gel up when
left alone for awhile. It's really a stretch to claim that these
companies intentionally developed a product that would give you
artificial silly-putty parasites. Nice try, though.
Mike says:

Oh, I forgot to mention that we told our family physician about the
parasites. He acted like that was highly unlikely unless we lived in
the Amazon rainforest or the Congo, or walked barefoot in dumpsters
quite often. He then gave my wife a prescription for 4 pills that he
said would eradicate any and all parasites. She took the pills,
nothing happened. She went back on the Colonix again after several
months, and passed a couple more, one that was about 8 inches long
with a triangle-shaped head. Pretty gross. Well, if you want a
conspiracy theory, here's one for you. The doctors don't want you to
get rid of your parasites because they make too much money treating
you for all the bad stuff the parasites do to you over time. Sure it
sounds incredible to actually have that stuff inside you BUT IT'S
TRUE, PEOPLE. Not for all of you, but I would bet at least 10 - 15%.
If you suspect you have worms, give it a try - and just eating fiber
won't kill parasites by the way, you have to take the toxin that kills
them (Paranil, in the Colonix kit). Ok, enough rambling, but
seriously, keep an open mind on this one....
Kat says:

There is a difference between "not likely" and "not possible." I
highly doubt your doctor intended on keeping your wife sick. Tapeworms
can be fatal, and lawsuits are nasty.
Soula says:

I also doubt the doctor intended to keep Mike's wife sick.. HOWEVER...
I firmly believe that doctors these days are just doing their job to
get paid.. they're not the omnicient, selfless beings some of us like
to think they are... and that means having patients temporarily get
well enough only to come back a few weeks/months later for either the
same complaint or another (that most likely is a side effect of the
perscription that was given to them to begin with)... this is how they
make their LIVING... ie: where would doctors be, if there was no need
for perscribing pills?
Speaking of colonix, I have tried the Dr. Natura cleanse after
stumbling on it online, while doing a search on cleanses, which
resulted from my reading one of Kevin Trudeau's books... After doing
the cleanse for about 2-3 weeks I passed an interesting, long,
rubbery-looking specimen that definitely sparked quite the interest
and fascination... I couldn't continue to do the cleanse because after
about the 3rd week, I had a gallbladder attack and had to have my
gallbladder removed.. The surgeon said my gallbladder was FILLED with
stones... (This might sound sick but I thought it was pretty cool: He
let me keep two as souvenirs lol)

Now I'd like to believe the cleanse initiated a toxin removal from my
system, which in turn initiated the gallbladder attack, which let me
know there was something wrong with my gallbladder... Gallstones don't
form overnight.. and they certainly don't form in a month... the two
incidents could very well be pure coincidence...but a gut feeling
tells me (or so I'd like to believe) the cleanse basically initiated
my body's cry for help.. I was able to schedule surgery a month later
(after being on an extremely strict gallbladder diet to prevent any
future attacks) and all went well... I guess you can take a 50/50 on
this.. I'd love to hear people's opinions...

My father, who is a well know gasteroenterologist for the last 40
years suggests that normal bowel function is 1 to 3 bowel movements a
day. Otherwise, material is collecting in the bowels. X rays can
dectect fecal matter stuck to the interior walls of the bowels. Toxins
meant for elimination are reabsorbed by the body. Younger people often
have compensating energy and health for years. As we age the
cumulative effects of incomplete elimation are felt.
I have used colonix and one of the first benefits was elimation of
headaches which always accompanied sluggish elimiation. The herb
formula is necessary for nourishing the organs and glands and for
killing the pests. To put together the formulas and package them is
costly. Today we do not consume the wild plant foods that routinely
killed pests and toned our organs as our species evolved. Taking these
supplements is beneficial and in my opinion will extend one's
vitality.

the discipline to do a 5 day fresh-juice cleanse, no other products
needed, and experience the proof yourself.

Cleanses can work very well if your system is in need of one. I know
mine was and I lost inches off my waist as my middle shrank throughout
the cleanse and I left behind green/black/yellow ropes that were very
old and dry. You can tell the difference because if you pass a normal
stool after ingesting psyllium, it looks like a normal stool, brown
and smooth but softer and more gel like, nothing like the ropes.

I have also put psyllium in a glass and it gels of course, but that
proves nothing. The gel is what pushes the toxic goo out of you. I
have passed ropes only using epsom salt and water too, so its no scam.
Give it a try and you will see :)
Any doctor that defines constipation as less than 3 BMs a week is a
fool. Frequent hard stools with straining, and regular BMs but at a
lower quantity than normal is also constipation, and can lead to
diarhhea.

I HAVE TRIED COLONIX (DRNATURA) SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE I HAVE IBS,
COLONIX HAS HELPED ME WITH MY IBS. I DON'T THINK I PASSED LARGE WORMS,
BUT I DID NOT STUDY MY STOOL LIKE OTHER PEOPLE DO. I DO KNOW I USE TO
HAVE PROBLEMS OF GETTING PIN WORMS BECAUSE I COULD FEEL THEM WIGGLING
AROUND THE EDGE OF MY ANAL, BY USING THE COLONIX IT HAS GOTTEN RID OF
THE PIN WORMS, HELPED MY IBS, GAVE ME ENERGY, GOTTEN RID OF MY BACK
PAINS DUE TO THE FECES BUILD UP IN MY BOWELS AND I FEEL SO MUCH
BETTER.

MAYBE FOR OTHERS IT MAY NOT WORK, BUT I KNOW FOR SURE IT HAS HELPED ME
ALOT, SO I USED COLONIX AROUND EVERY THREE TO FOUR MONTHS. BY THE WAY,
MY GASTEROENTEROLOGIST TOLD ME A NORMAL BOWEL FUNCTION IS 1 to 3 BOWEL
MOVEMENTS PER DAY. SO, I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING CHRISTINE WROTE.

I had tried others before Colonix and nothing even compared to Dr.

Why are we so in love with poop? This hub not only was great, but
addictive. I had to read every comment left, so thanks for a great
hub.
All this talk about cleansing makes me think about what my dad said
about writers (and me), we're just full of sht. I counteract that by
trying to drink more water, and be regular, and have tried the 5 juice
cleanse before. My brother swears by some mix of cayanne pepper and
warm water, along with fasting. It did produce some nasty results,
which made me wonder how water can turn to poo- so it must be working
on some level, but I've yet to try it.

Whenever I feel like cleaning out the trunk (I'm sorry) I just go to
this cheap Chinese food place and get the Hot and Sour Chicken. After
about four hours, I'm in the john, perched on my throne (someone
please do a hub on the orgins of those phrases, is it the magna
carta?) and I feel like everything is coming out. Suddenly, I'm 5
pounds lighter, or at least that's how I feel.
Who needs ColonBlow, when you have General Tso's!?

mike jones says:

I did a juice and fiber cleanse that produced rope shits like the ones
pictured on dr Naturas site. If you want amazing results like the ones
pictured, all you have to do is take an excess of fiber (psyllium husk
powder works the best). I dont know if it is the fiber or some kind of
intestine lining that comes out but it was definitely rope like, and
didn't break apart. If you want to try it yourself you will need
psyllium husk powder and a gallon or 2 of organic juice. For your
breakfast lunch and dinner, mix 2 - 3 heaping spoons of the fiber into
a glass of juice and stir until it starts to thicken. Drink it quickly
or else it will be the consistency of thick apple sauce. I did this
for 2 days and passed some crazy ropes with weird stuff inside. Even
though I hadn't eaten for 2 days I didn't feel that hungry because of
all the fiber. I felt great afterwards and would recommend this to
anyone who is considering one of those expensive programs. It is much
cheaper and produces the same if not better results.

Having read all the comments on this hub, I am surprised that no one
mentioned the important fact that humans get all of their nutrition,
that feeds our bodies and our brains, as it is absorbed through our
intestinal walls. If there is not a healthy colony of growing flora on
the walls of the intestines because of accumulated muck, parasites and
other stuff, we can't get the full benefit from anything we ingest.
In addition, almost unknown to the majority of modern medical
practices, but well accepted in Chinese medicine and by natural health
practitioners is the fact (western research is beginning to preceive
it and is trying to prove it) that there is a specific flow to how our
body's systems work together and that many modern medical practices
and techniques can throw that natural flow off course. It is a very
individualized matter though. I believe all medical knowledge, old and
new has merit for people in particualr circumstances at some point in
time.

Excellent discussion; knowledge and personal intuition are the keys to
health.

but what many people fail to mention is that many OTC laxatives have
questionable ingredients too. I suffer from constipation, so I know
how miserable it can be at times.
The only colon cleanser I would suggest is Oxypowder. Mainly because
they are the only product that has conducted clinical studies & the
company that makes it recently won the Better Business Bureau's Award

Maddie, I disagree with your post that weight is hereditary. If you
burn more calories than you consume, you will lose the weight. If you
lift weights to the point of fatigue, you will develop muscles and a
toned body.

I agree that there are several factors in weight, but the fact
remains, that genetically it has been scientifically proven that
weight is about as heritable as height (within one or two percentage
points). Of course, height is also affected by other factors, such as
nutrition during growth stages, bone strength, etc.

In actuality, it is not accurate to state that anyone could look like
the fitness models you see in advertising or workout DVDs. It is easy
for someone for whom it IS possible to condemn those for whom it is
not, telling them to work harder. In the end, some people can do more
exercise than another and still be bigger, or appear less toned.

I am into day 4 of a colon cleanse study I am doing myself and if it

though this product was doing its job.
I tried the glass trick as well and was surprised. I would have never

I have seen people discussing natural drinks ( like the aloe vera
juice above ), do you recommend anything like that besides just water
and fiber?

Hi, I agree with what Maddie is saying about weight being hereditary.
My boyfriend is 6' 1" tall and 180lbs. He works contruction. He has
not been to a gym in at least 2 years. Does not take supplements or
eat a special diet. In fact his favorite meals are buffalo wings (high
infat). He does not do situps or traditional ab workouts of anykind.
He has an amazing physique complete with 6 pack abs (like Usher the
singer), defined chest and arms and a nice butt and legs. Of course it
doesnt hurt that he is lean naturally. But there are many guys who are
6' tall and 180 lbs and have stomachs and are not lean and defined
like my guy. So there is a genetic predisposition that with even
minimal exercise (like working construction) certain people will look
really ripped.

Maddie, weight isn't all genetics. Anyone without odd medical
conditions can have a lean body. I agree It's harder for some because
of different metabolisms. If you eat more calories that you burn, you
will gain weight. So if you eat less calories than your body needs,
your body will start burning fat. The preceding ties in with
metabolism of course. Theres ways to increase your metabolism. Anyone
can lose the weight, trust me.

I never claimed weight was ALL genetics, just as height isn't all
genetics. However, people's set points do differ, and weight is not
the most accurate measure of health, though that seems to be the
prevading medical myth of our day.

While it may be true that anyone is capable of losing weight, under
the right (or wrong) conditions, it is not true that every person
could lose it in a healthy way, be better for the losing, or even
ought to.

Good discussion...I've been researching products for years and trying
various things to encourage detoxification since I have a daughter
with enviromental allergies and chronic constipation and another with
food allergies--I have some kidney/liver issues myself. I do believe
that toxins in the body are reabsorbed if we're not eliminating well.
I've tried aloe vera, all sorts of fiber supplements, epsom salts with
olive oil, lemon juices cleanses, kidney, liver and colon cleanses, etc
with varying results...(never any ropes though). I personally eat and
drink lots of fresh greens and fruit in smoothies, juices and salads,
whole grains, lots of water, low salt intake...but my kids don't
always want to do that or just don't always (teenagers). Recently, I
found an herbal tea called Dr. Miller's Holy Tea. You just make a
gallon up for the week and drink it with your meals--so easy--and it
is said to cleanse ALL your organs and blood and get rid of parasites
(haven't seen them yet)....well, it's the first product that I can
actually feel a huge difference with in my energy among so other
things associated with a cleaner colon (3 times a day
eliminations)...after less than a week on it...kids will start on it
next month and it should be easy enough for them...I was just trying
it out first. This seems to be a gentle and powerful natural product
that we could live with easily...and live better with I already feel.
I hear what is being said about scams, but I know different things
work for different people...sometimes you have to try a few things to
figure out what works best for you personally. I appreciate reading
all the first hand experiences here. Thank you for taking the time to
share it. Prune juice never did much at all for me--I have no idea
why.

This thread is interesting because I recently have been increasing the

I'm open to hear it. Those mainstays of human existence, water, raw

in moderation, with movement that is fun and natural.

acidopholis and if you're diet has been particularly bad for a period

I believe these colon cleanse products are a joke. For me, two things
work great 1) Kellogg's Smart Start cereal 2)A product called
Effersyllium. However, it seems as though the major brands have
knocked it off the shelves and the Metmucil's do not seem to work as
good. FYI...the generic fiber Wal-Mart sells(EQUATE??) has worked
better for me than the big brands. Seems like it is the cola
wars-Royal Crown wins taste tests all the time but you-know-who is
displayed the most.

Also, Fiber One does not work for me which was surprising. I switched
because Smart Start supposedly contains a bit more fat and sugar and
Fiber One was healthier. But it is back to Smart Start after this box
of Fiber One.

Interesting reading. I am a supporter of Colonix by Dr. Natura. About
4 years ago, I stumbled upon the Dr. Natura website. I have suffered
from constipation and gas/bloating since I was 19 years old (Now in my
40's). I tried laxatives, fiber, etc... I only went to the bathroom
about 1-2 times per week. At the end of a work day I could have fueled
my car with the gas stored up in body. I was miserable. I bought the
product and faithfully used it for one month. I never saw worms, or
strange bugs, thank goodnes. What did happen is that I no longer had
gas or bloating ever. I naturally went to the bath room at least 1-2
times per day. This cleanse worked for 3 years. Recently I am
experiencing bloating and gas again. Also a bit of constipation. I am
using the product again. I think certain products work for certain
people. I do not feel like Dr. Natura's Colonix was a scam to me. It
helped me and I am grateful.

I just finish reading the article and all of the comments, love it! I
actually have just started the Colonix Program, before reading this.
Honestly I hope it does work or I am going to be highly upset, (I like
to keep money in my pocket not put it in others). So here is the my
situation I never use to have gas until my 20's,(I am in my early 30's
now) now it happens so often I don't think twice about it. (Unless the
pain because of it not being able to escape get too much. I actually
had to go to the hospital twice due to that.) My breath never was a
problem till recently, I also was a ball of energy, till the past year
and a half. One thing though I am "regular" and usually do not strain.

I have tried the cereal, Metamucil and the husk and the results
usually were sever cramping, gas, or constipation. Sometimes I get a
lovely mix of the all. Some times even nauseous(weird). But I do eat
allot of wholegrain bread, nuts and fruits.
So far I am on day 6 and I have been more "regular" than usual. The
poo does look more funky than normal. I have seen some rubbery stuff.
But I am not going to say it is parasites or anything like that. I am
not a doctor and I do not have a lab at my disposal to verify what is
evacuating. Here it is so far: my gas as gotten better. (I have so far
had it in the mornings only.) My breath is also a lot better, even in
the mornings. As for the skin(actually getting some zits!), energy
(still hoping for that boost, to come) and weight ( I was hoping I
would lose some pounds as a perk) no change. But then again I am on
day six. The thing about it is I have not had any horrible cramps
using it, so far.

As for the other topic of weight in the nature/nurture issue. I am
181lbs and 5'6" and have been so for now about 4 years consistently.
BTW My mother said all the women in the family blew up as soon as we
turn 25 years.I was no exception, one minute I am 125lbs eating
everything under the sun next 181lbs watching everything I eat. I am
actually the skinniest one out of them, sad to say.I can't even say
it's baby fat since I have no children. And I have done everything
From exercising 3x a week with personal trainers while being on weight
watchers long term to a 10 week fitness camp. I acknowledge that I
probably would be bigger with out the diet and exercise but it can
really bother me sometimes when some of my friends never been to a gym
and and eat every bad thing under the sun, by the truckload are a size
0 to 4 or have a six pack(In case there may be thoughts, as far as I
know there are no eating disorders among my friends. If there were
friends afflicted with the disease I would not put them as examples.)
I am even sad to say tried the master cleanse(Yes I know it only
suppose to be for cleansing purposes, some times a person can get
desperate. It get even more desperate when a doc is on your back
telling you for how many years you have to lose the weight or your
knees are going to get worse, since arthritis runs in the family). I
was so cranky, my fiance was as miserable as I was. It was the hardest
2 days of my life( I am being honest, I like solid food with my
juice.). So I do believe that genetics can have a part in how easily a
person can ... I would like to say "mold" the body. But this is my
humble opinion.

So these are my final thought so far. Colonix so far is okay in my
book for regularity, but that opinion can change as I continue with
it. . I really don't know about the parasites cleansing unless I see
proof and lab reports with my own eyes. Weight is a definite mix of
genetics and determination( you know the exercise and diet thing)
I can only give my personal experiences as a reference. These opinions
are not meant to offend anyone, as I respected everyones opinions on
the article. It is just meant give a plain persons insight.

Amelia says:

Eli,

Good Luck with the Cleanse. It will work. Be glad you don't see worms
and things. Wouldn't that freak you out anyway?
181, is not the end of the world. You are probably a size 14. Marilyn
Monroe was a size 14. Also the national average size for women is a
16. So you are ahead of the game. It is interesting that you have the
same problems as I have had. My weight gain started when I was about
30. I have to tell you, that if you want to lose the weight, WALK!
WALK! WALK!. If you can walk 2-3 miles 4-5 days per week. You will
lose the weight. Walk at a pace that gets your heart rate up. It is
easy on your body and it tones every muscle. Ask you doctor. Like
anything else you have to commit your self to it. My weight goes up
and down because I get really ambitious, usually around this time of
year. I walk every day. Ironically when you are walking for exercise,
you start to really watch what you eat. It becomes a way of life.
Before you know it you have lost 30 pounds. The thing that I always do
is get down to a size 8 again and then get lazy. I also get busy with
my kids and everyday life and use it as a crutch.

The cleanse will not be an instant weight loss program. You may not
notice weight loss at all with it, but you will notice no more
GAS/Bloating, etc... Gas in the morning is normal, but within the
first 1/2 hour of waking you will go to the bathroom and get rid of
what is causing the gas. It is like miracle. Take the product for the
time recommended so that you get a complete cleanse. Isn't the tea
really good at night time before bed?
Keep us posted.

I`m doing ALOT of research right now on COLON cleansing as I`m one of
those people who have neglected my diet and admittedly have some bad
habits that contribute to some internal ailments such as constipation,
bloating , fatigue and probably other things I can`t see with the
naked eye. This thread is excellent and is one of the top threads I
have found discussing this matter. As many of you are, I am a
consumer, who doesn`t want to be scammed, but want a product that
works, so reading people`s experiences and arguments are important to
me.

I want to throw somethings out there that I`ve determined, simply by
research and discussions that I`ve had on the matter:
I believe that scientists have actually verified that there are over
100 species of various critters(parasites and such), that live in the
human body. I know this makes many shiver at the thought, but in
reality its natural for one species of life form to benefit from
another lifeform. For the majority, they actually perform essential
duties to help in our everyday functioning. BUT this leaves room for
intruders, and I have had parasitical infections in my ear. I have a
few friends who have had worms. It is quite creepy to share such
personal encounters with people but really it has reinforced the fact
that it is possible, we are ripe with uninvited invaders. Some do harm
and some do not! Unfortunately, I`m not up enough on my parasites to
know their benefit or harm.

Another confirmation that I have received, is that we can have upto
10lbs trapped in our system at any one time. I have confirmed this
with several GP`s. I have read reports on the internet that people can
have up to 75 pounds. I think that is a HUGE exageration, though, I
guess it could be possible if you way 1000lbs. Sometimes, people and
companies focus on the extremes, as scare tactics. But if you are of
normal weight, unless you have a severe form of constipation, then the
amount of fecal matter that is in your system, really is of a lesser
amount.
Therefore, based on the above facts, I do believe it totally possible
to have unwanted parasites, worms and other bacterial matter living in
the accumulated fecal matter that is in our system. There are some
parasites and worms that cause both minor and major health
problems.(ie tapeworm). Again, I do not pretend to know every possible
critter that lives in the human body, and how their habitat affects my
living. This is why consumers are so gullible.. we get so freaked out
by the unknown and worry about the `what ifs`!

So this is where the dilemma lies... What does it take bring my body
back to good overall health especially internally?
My philosphy is two fold: There has to be RESTORATIVE MEASURES taken
and then one should have a healthy MAINTENANCE...

This is where the problem lies...What does it take to cleanse your
colon and restore your body to good health? Should we take special
cleansing products, or with a change in diet, etc will our "well
designed" bodies naturally recover ONCE we make the healthy changes
necessary(as suggested by Maddie). I do agree our bodies our a very
resilent and well designed to heal itself BUT I think we all can agree
that over the years our bodies do deteriorate due to various injuries,
ailments and diseases. The fact that we can have cancer,
bacteria/parasitical infections, blockages, clottings, and other
medical conditions that even our body cannot totally correct itself or
recover from everything. But our body is resilient, so if we treat it
right, it can certainly correct and heal itself from various ailments.
BUT it is important that we start the the proper Restoration and
Maintenance Processes Necessary.
First of all, based on the research I've done, it is absolutely
apparrent that to be become healther, we need to make healthier
lifestyle decisions.

1) Eat healthier foods - don't eat sugar, salt, MSG, processed foods
and other unhealthy fats, pork products...Stick with ALL Natural
foods, and if you really want to be heathy, BUY Organic, limit your
intake of beef...and make sure you have a healthy dose of Fibre to
stay regular.
2) Drink Lots of Water, Green Tea, and natural juice, stay away from
colas and drinks with sugars in it...

3) Have a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise a day....(ie walking,
running, etc) My mom walks daily and shes as fit as a fiddle....
4) Have hobbies that help you relax - when we're stressed - we tend to
make poor diet choices

5) Quit bad habits that are detrimental to your health..
etc. etc. When you do these things how do you feel?

As for cleansing, I believe cleansing "the system" is a good jumpstart
to following through with the above advice. We, know our own bodies,
and I feel we are the best judge of the symptoms that we experience...
THOUGH, I FULLY RECOMMEND you visit you GP before you choose to try
ANY cleansing method. I fully understand that some GP's are hesitant
to have people try non-FDA approved natural health products, as some
products might actually do more harm than good. I'm quite upset that
someone above suggested that Doctor don't want to treat things such as
parasites, so they prescribe ineffective treatments to make money.
THATS HOGWASH!!! Most GP's I know, are caring, and are concerned for
the betterment of their patients health. I also believe there are
effective natural products on the market, but GP's are hesitant to use
them as they aren't FDA approved, and if something went wrong, they,
the GPs could face serious consequences. This is why they leave it up
to the patient to explore other avenues of treatment, especially if
the GP has difficulties solving our medical condition.
As it comes to Colon cleansing solutions, it is important to be aware
of Snake Oil, therefore research your treatments thoroughly. I have
been disappointed that several Colon Cleansing treatments such as
Colonix seem to target consumer fear in their advertising as opposed
to realistic based advertising,,,unforunately this is a common
advertising stategy for many advertising strategies. So even if the
product does work, it leaves huge doubt in its credibility as a
product. Maddie has perfectly summarized the misinformation.

BUT i actually know people who swear by Colonix. They have
substantially proven that it works, and have said that though, the
Colonix Gelatin is the most likely cause of the stringy green stuff
that they poop out. The also have pooped out parasites, old fecal
matter, and have corrected their bloatedness, constipation and put
themselves on the fasttrack to better health. It appears there are
other ingredients in Colonix that treat parasites aside from psyllium.
BUT i also have read some testimonies of users who have not have any
results, and have had severe headaches and nausea from taking the
product.

This illustrates to me that Colonix does work for some and not for
others. This leads me to the conclusion that potentially that Colonix
was not the right treatment solution for them.
Therefore, I am of the conclusion that this product does WORK for some
but NOT for all. They have a 60 day money back guarantee, which they
have been faithful to follow through with. (ONLY 2 complaints with
BBB)

Other facts about Colonix. Its not FDA Approved. It has a satisfactory
record with BBB, they only have ONE complaint the the product does NOT
work. It is ranked as the best Colon Cleanse Treatment by some neutral
natural health websites...There is one website that noted that the tea
contains Senna which is an ingredient that should not be used longer
than 7 days without consulting a physician. Also, there is another
note that users do not drink enough water, then severe cramping and
nausea is likely to occur.
As for the comment about psyllium gelatin forming in the colon, and
coming out in the poop. If the advertising DID NOT promote this as,
some of the gunk that collects in the system, I would feel that this
gelatin IS necessary to kill and expel the collection of parasite,
bacterial matter and

Phil says:
oops to finish the miniessay... :P con'd

old fecal matter. It seems the gelatin has the ability cling on to
whatever is leaching around the colon walls.
I think to summarize...Every cleansing products has benefits and
hazards, what treatment one chooses really depends on comfort
level...Just be aware of the product your using and the criticisms and
cautions that are posted about that product.

I will be attempting to use the psyllium husk powder with prune juice
as I change my diet. If this does not help me, after 2-3 weeks, I will
try colonix, If that doesn't work after 45 days, I will ask for my
money back.
Thanks for reading my argument. I this this was as much about me
processing my thoughts, as it was giving my point of view to the
thread...Take care!

If you want a great and inexpensive colon cleanse, and also see the
results, then ask your doctor to send you for a colonoscopy, take the
gentle laxatives prescribed, and then watch the screen as they insert
the tiny camera in your colon…. ( no it does not hurt if you take the
local anaesthetic) you will see the same thing as the doctor does, and
you will see how pretty and pink and clean your colon is on your
insides... no gunk of any sort, and all you took is some effective
laxative....and did not eat solids for 48 hours…

After my colonoscopy I realised that this entire colon cleanse stuff
is hogwash…
I did have lots of problems for two years….then I discussed the
results of the colonoscopy with my doctor, and did some allergy tests
and discovered that I am lactose intolerant… and now I take lactase
pills (or dairy digestive pills) when I eat anything with cheese,
yoghurt and milk products…. My symptoms almost completely disappeared…
unless I forget that even cakes have milk products…

Our bodies are capable of dealing with all kinds of toxins, but it is
not the colon that does that work, but the liver…. and the kidneys…the
main thing the colon does is provide some beneficial bacteria, and
absorb water from the wastes….
By the way do not take laxatives too often… it will weaken the muscles
around your sphincter and you will then leak…. Yuck…

Now that I am fifty i had the dreaded colonoscopy which actuall wasn't
as bad as I thought it would be. Anyway I did the "prep" which cleans
out your intestine and then stayed awake and watched the whole thing
so I saw the inside of my whole intestine. Neither the prep nor the
procedure revealed any horrible hidden built up debris and I didn't
lose any weight, so much for all that junk hanging around in my body.
ask anyone who has had this procedure and you will probably hear the
same thing.

I haven't really lost any weight but this isn't supposed to be a

intend to do) I will drop some pounds. We do build up fecal matter in
our systems. A friend of mine that has been a vegetarian for 15 years
had some surgery recently that had showed she had passed meat.
Remember she hadn't eaten meat for 15 years !! What does that tell

Do you have any idea what would happ en if someone discovered an
overall cure for all types of cancer, well to begin with he/she would
put several million people out of work. Entire corporations would have
to shut down putting even more people on the streets, someone trys to
help people, and immediately the medical community jumps on their
proverbial "It's gonna hurt you" wagon. And please don't bring the FDA
into this or any other discussion, talk about QUACKS, these vpeople

from unknown causes, so when they did the autopsey, they discovered 39
pounds of rotting fecal material in her colon, and toxins not
recognized by the medical community, sooo maddy or whatever your name

To the last poster:

I believe I have read I have read somewhere that many elderly people
will overdose their fiber supplement and underdose the necessary level
of water - resulting in what I think was called an impacted colon.
Could it be she had 39 pounds of that? I don't have an explanation for
the toxins supposedly found.
To your comment about curing cancer would result in a lot of
job/business loss. I suspect the economy wouldn't collapse - if
anything, those scientists/businesses would focus on any of the
hundreds of other diseases out there. :)

I suspect there are a lot of shill posters from sites like Drnatura -
pushing how amazing their mixtures are as compared to other cheaper
products. When you then take into consideration the posters' comments
about how clean their colons looked on a colonoscopy after 16-48 hours
of colon prep - it seems rather silly to even consider these 'rope'
type movements.
Interesting site, good article Maddie. I am not a member of the site,
but I appreciated your effort.

My experience with colon cleanses is that they have helped me
immensely. As a child I had a bowel movement every three or four days!
Between using colon cleanses on occasion and taking an excellent
probiotic daily, today I go 2-3 times a day. I no longer have bloating
or gastric pain problems.

If a person eats three times a day but only goes to the bathroom every
other day, there is a definite input, output problem.
The best to you.

Go back to what Phil said... YAHOO.... I suffered from a lot of the
symptoms everyone is discussing in this blog and my first step was
eliminating MSG from my diet. NOT EASY let me tell you. But I did and
I lost over 10 lbs without trying. I went a step further and
researched it and found all the terms they use in packaging to hide
it. I also took roughly 95% of the hydrogenated oils out of my diet
(it's almost impossible to do it 100%). I figure if it was made to sit
on a shelf for years, I didn't want it in my body. I have never felt
better in my life of 37 years! My husband has IBS and he is finding
(through lots of work & will power) that my way is the right way. But
beware! If you decide to go that route, it's a lot of work. It's a
daily effort to follow and take in in baby steps or you will be
overwelmed with what you can't eat. But, in the end, your patience
will be rewarded~~

I had health problems a few years ago due to my eating and drinking
habits. I cut out alcohol, fast food, pork, coffee, soda, and any type of
junk food that was creating havoc on my colon. I didn't want to be
like John Wayne with 40 lbs of fecal matter stuck in his colon. So I
just started drinking a lot of water, cut down on my eating
habits, adopted fiber in my diet, started working out vigorously, not
only have I lost weight, but am feeling energetic like I was when I
was 14. Just watch what you eat, take a nutrition class and be aware
of Genetically Modified Organisms(GMO's)as well as MSG

I've done the glass test when doing my colon clenase from Blessed
Herbs. The husks do swell up to a soft gel which is the whole point of
psyllium and why it is so effective in your colon !!! It DOES NOT form
a rubber that is difficult to break and looks like old tyres. Try the
test yourself and you'll see the difference. The psyillium is NOTHING
like what comes out after 3 days on the cleanse. Since doing the
cleanse I've gone from very irregular bowel movements to a couple a
day. This means that any toxins in my food are being passed quickly
and efficiently and I'm not keeping poop in my system which is
potentially very harmful. Anyone having 3 poops a week is asking for
serious trouble in the future. Why do you think 1 in 3 of us will get
some kind of cancer. Our diets of course and the amounts of toxins we
take in which are being stored in our bodies. The doctors have no idea
at all about anything except drugs, drugs, drugs. It's not their
fault, they are ignorant - ask this question - who funds the medical
schools, the drug companies of course. Why would they want to educate
doctors about anything but drugs? It's just not in their interest is
is ?

I want to point out that when Elvis Presley died he had 60lbs of old
fecal matter in his intestines, your intestines have pockets in them
which can get old fecal matter stuck in them if you do not go to the
bathroom often and this can lead to infection, it is entirely possible
to have large quantities of poo stuck inside of your body at any given
time. Not to get too graphic but I only went to the bathroom 1 time
every other week, yes that is right ONE BM everyOTHER week. I started
Dr.Naturas program 2 days ago and have gone 5 times in the past 2
days, that is amazing for me. Also, a good thing to point out is that
we take in artificial substances everyday that our bodies just hold
inside because it has no idea HOW to process it, a good example is
margerine, it is all chemicals and not natural our intestines cannot
process it there for it sits there forever unless you do something to
get it out of there, ie colon cleansing.

I do agree everyone is out to make a quick buck but I do believe with
all sincerity that Colonix works, I do not claim to have seen bugs or
any crazy stuff but then again I am only on day 2. I have eaten so
much junkie fried and fatty and processed foods for the pastever and I
am telling you for the amount I have taken in not even 2/3 of it has
come out. If you read dr.naturas ingredients, which I have gone
through everysingle one and wikied it, you quickly realize not only
are they fiberous but they ALSO have health benefits some help cleanse
liver and kidney function while some help with blood circulation and
heart function, so although things like psyllium husk DO infact work
great at helping with regularity (colonix contains psyllium husk) you
can't expect ONE herb to help with a WHOLE cleanse.

I think that it is funny that people believe such nonsense. Elvis did
have an impacted colon due to DRUG USE! Read the Urban Legend info
here http://www.snopes.com/horrors/gruesome/fecalcolon.

Moving on....(pun intended). All of the colon cleaners I've looked at
all contain well known remedies in different ratios and different
packaging at a price premium. Whether it is psyllium, bentonite,
senna, or whatever--they all facilitate the body to produce bowel
movements. I don't know that it is fair to call this product or that
product a scam based on that. They are scams because of the actual
costs of the ingredients in relation to the cost of the product. I
think that is the main point that this page is trying to make.
Take this example, why pay $40 for psyllium husks with fancy herbs v's
generic store brand psyllium at $5. This is the same marketing that
says Tylenol brand is "better" than generic. All of these products
will work, but they are priced at a premium that tends to be
significantly higher than their ingredients. Not to mention, will not
see fancy/glossy infomercials on TV selling generic psyllium husks
anytime soon....

Also, if one of these products doesn't work, you should probably go
see a doctor. I know that if were taking psyllium for several days and
hadn't had a bowel movement, I would be very concerned!
As for COLON BLOW, I have to give someone credit for stealing a
Saturday Night LIve skit "product" and selling it for real. Especially
when you can get a really cool T-shirt with it....(In case you are
wondering, I'm being sarcastic. What a tool.)

Isn't it interesting that even when you expose people to the actual
truth, so many of them will still insist on supporting the lies
they've been told. I don't think having a chemical engineering degree
means you know thing one about the human body or nutrition. If his
daughter or wife had a tapeworm, it's either because they visited a
third world country and ate or drank, or they ate food that wasn't
prepared properly, by someone who probably had feces on their hands
when they prepared it. Getting tapeworms in America is highly
improbable, otherwise.

Yes, those colon cleansing products are purposely loaded with things
that give you rubber crap, because then they can lie to you and tell
you that it's built up toxins. Therefore, you keep spending money on
their products.
Ever talked to a doctor that performs colonoscopies? They prescribe
that bottle of magnesium water, that makes you go, and the person is
clean afterwards. They aren't crapping big gross, ropy strands. Just
normal or watery bowel movements. Do they ever find evidence that
anyone is loaded with caked on fecal matter? Absolutely not. And they
look up there with microscopic cameras.

Rob says:

Researching other products so called "user reviews" on numerous
different websites, I have found the same reviews, to the word, with
different names on different sites. I think there is a big racket with
companies hyping their own products under the guise of personal
stories and customer reviews. Usually the ones with actual email
addresses attached to them are more reliable, if you can actually
contact the person. Still the internet can be a huge tool of
deception.

Thanks, Maddie, great explanation! I have been thinking about doing
one of these colon cleanses but after reading this, and some of the
posts, I'm wondering what on earth I was thinking. I'm one of those
who had a colonoscopy and can testify that it's possible to obtain a
clean, pink inside with nothing more than a day's juice fasting and a
purgative. And although that does make you sit on the toilet
frequently over a couple of hours, nothing nasty comes out!
Those who reply to say colon cleanse products work - Maddie's not
disputing that. What she's saying is that there are lots of other
inexpensive alternatives that work just as well.

Drinking at least eight glasses of water every day will keep your
colon healthy.
E says:

Okay, I'm not a Colonix user. And I agree that many get-rich-quick
companies prey upon the desire to trust and the desperation of those
struggling with gut-induced ailments such as IBS, diverticulitis,
Crohn's, constipation, obesity and toxin accumulation (and all that
goes with it). And while I loathe that kind of opportunistic
predation, the fact remains that the product apparently does work for
some people. Can they put it together themselves more cheaply?
Probably. But if it works and they don't mind paying someone else to
do the legwork for them, I won't tell them that they're suckers for
doing it.
I have tried juice fasting and the Master Cleanse fast. Those lasted 3
and 5 days respectively. I didn't have the fabulous poop-ropes that
these programs touted as the trophies that mark success, but I did
reap the benefits of a) feeling lighter and more "clear", b) a loss of
about 7 lbs, and c) a spritual re-booting. Fasting has more than just
physical benefits: it allows us to re-evaluate our relationship with
food and causes us to examine the REAL reasons we're freaking out for
chocolate and french fries. It lets you see just how bombarded we are
every single day with advertiesments for pre-packaged, plastic-coated,
pseudo foods. Nobody advertises for fruits and vegetables! We're told
day in, day out, that we need to eat this, eat that, eat, eat,
eat...or we'll die of starvation! I went without food for 5 whole days
and aside from some minor fatigue on day 2, I didn't suffer any ill
effects. I'm just saying...it's worth rethinking.

As to the arguement about poop-ropes being caused by the "cure", I
don't think it's true. After all, the same results come from the
Master Cleanse (lemonade fast)...which is a strict liquid diet for a
minimum or 10 days. You don't eat, yet you're pooping ropes...OK. So
it's not psyllium husk. Some schools of thought say that it's actually
mucous being deposited into the bowel by the body. So, not to be too
graphic, they are "snot-ropes". Yummy.
BTW, to the person who had his gallbladder removed, it's too bad you
hadn't tried the old remedy beforehand. I can't remember exactly, but
it consists mostly of olive oil and lemon juice taken on a thoroughly
empty digestive system. You can find it in the book Back to Eden.
GREAT book, btw. Anyway, this apparently flushes the gallbladder, and
the stones are passed out the digestive system.

The Snopes page says people CAN have large accumulations of waste in
their colon, and that Elvis had it, though it may have been from drugs
slowing down his digestive system. What I see is that it is from a
slowed-down digestive system and some of use could have that for
reasons other than drugs. It also says colon cleansing can have
positive health effects. I've never done any colon-anything, but I'm
thinking about it as I battle intestinal candida overgrowth. Why give
those buggies more to chew on than they deserve?

even thought of this stuff til one did. She isn't doing colon

Totally agree with Maddie on this one. If colon cleansing is so good
for you, wouldn't allopathic doctors be recomending it? Sorry, all you
AMA conspiracy theorists, it just doesn't make sense.
E says:

Sorry, psioni, but I'm afraid I lost faith in allopathic medecine as
THE source for health. It has its place, like when I've been scraped
off the road after an accident, if I've got a broken arm, or if I've
got a birth defect that can be corrected with surgery. But they're
"fixers". Even if it ain't really broke, they still like to "fix" it.
There's quick-fix pill for nearly everything, and a slew of side
effects caused by each...leading you straight back to the allopathic
doctor for yet another pill...with another side effect. I really love
my (allopathic) doctor. She's very honest and has been with our family
since my first pregnancy 13 years ago. But her training has taught her
to see me as a system of parts, not as a whole, multi-dimensional
organism. Most of my symptoms won't show up on a blood test or a
chart. And her training tells her that it therefore must be all in my
head.
I just think there's a sad lack of self-accountability for our
personal health these days. I'm no exception. We spend years
neglecting ourselves and not paying attention to warning signs, and
then we think we have a right to not have to suffer for it. We run to
the doctor for a quick fix.

My opinions are based on my own experiences with doctors over the
years. I hold nothing against them as people, and I know they have the
best of intentions. I just don't think the method that they practice
works as well as common sense prevention and diligent personal
attention to maintaining a clean-running body.

Colonix is a great product, worth every penny. I did an initial 3

once a year. The fiber powder isn't just psyllium, but includes other
beneftaul herbs as well. The tea and the paranil capsuls also have
many herbs (i.e. the tea isn't just senna)
This product has helped me tremendously. It is gently and safe to use.
I suggest going on their site and reading through the information on
their formulas. There are a lot of scams on the web for products that
will save you, but this company and product are the real deal. And
yes, if psylliam if left in a glass of water it will turn into a mass,
but that is only part of what you are eliminating when you do this
cleanse. Anyone who thinks they aren't carrying around impacted fecal
matter in their intestines in our industrailized world has their head

I got really really sick over a year ago, and ended up with horrible
bloating and cramps after all of the antibiotics. I researched for
MONTHS to see what could be done about it. My doctor wanted to give me
more antibiotics. I was so tired of blood tests and taking pills that
didn't work, that I finally said screw it. I found Dr, Natura's site,
and started to research them. They are third party verified for the
testemonies. I finally caved and sent them my money.

At first nothing happened. I called customer service, which is
answered by a real live person who does not transfer you, and they
helped me tweak the program to fit me.
I am now into my second month. I have not had ropes come out, but I
have seen some weird shit. Literally :P My bloating and cramps are
gone, and I do not get nauceous in the mornings any more. For me, it
was completely worth the money. Nothing my doctor gave me worked, and
this did.

Oh, and another thing... about colonoscopys. They only go through your
large intestine. Your small intestine is ridiculously curvy and long.
So of course when you take the laxative your large intestine looks
healthy and pink and clean, because it is big enough and straight
enough to not get stuff stuck in it. It is the last area before the
'way out', so most of the stuff that could get stuck and/or absorbed
had already been done so. I know, I have had two colonoscopys.
I am not getting paid nor am in anyway affiliated with Dr. Natura. I
just wanted to share that it is working for me. Though if they want to
pay me, I wouldn't say no. I have student loans that need to be paid
off :P

Hello I came across your hub page blog and had to write. If people
would just use some common sense and think before spending their money
for all these so-called miracle fixes and cures and quick healing
quackery then maybe the population would start to get smarter, but as
the great showman said 100 yrs ago there is one born every minute.
Okay a bit more education here people take your finger and feel the
inside of your mouth, feel how smooth and siilky and soft and wet it
feels, now follow this closely, that same tissue goes all the way thru
to the other end yes people the same tissue, the same soft silky
non-stick tissue goes thru to your backside. Yet a common thread in
all the ads for colon cleanses is that this so-called gunk sticks to
our insides like spackle, paste or glue?? Now speaking from experience
and after having several colonoscopys and later after having my colon
removed due to a nasty disease called Crohns disease I can assure you
that we do not have 10 to 20 pounds of gunk attached to the walls of
our colons. Infact 2 weeks ago I had a ileoscopy (think colonoscopy
only small intestines hence the ileum) and with no prep at all except
nothing to eat or drink 9 hours before the exam there was nothing
spackled to my walls. And yes Kitty my Ileum is curvey and has twists
and turns and loops and rolls but nothing was gunked up inside of it
and surprising the Dr. also did a regular endoscope down my throat at
the same time and the scopes met and nothing at all. People please
listen sure you can spend all the money in the world on cleanseing out
your colon and intestines and detoxifying your body but in the end it
doesn't do you a lick o good, of course if you must spend it why not
send me some as I have a better use for it, I need to pay some bills I
still have a balance of $395,000.00 owed to the hospital from my last
couple of surgeries and stays.

You're absolutely correct in what you say. Colon cleansers, colon
hydrotherapy is a scam. And colonics only serve to mess up the
chemical balance of your colon and eventually it won't absorb vital
nutrients that your body needs.

Was reading the Dr Cohen 1pd forum and most, if not all the people on
this diet suffer from constipation because there is very little
roughage in the diet, so they suggest colon cleansing as the answer.
Why not just add some roughage to the diet, after all, the body
doesn't absorb roughage and so one cannot pick up weight from it. If a
diet makes you constipated, then there's something drastically wrong
with it, no matter how much weight it makes you lose.
It's almost like a brainwashing exercise over there - I mean, whatever
happened to exercise, a healthy diet (with sufficient roughage) and
plain common sense??

patty says:

I think people look for a cure-all and try to find it in a bottle when
most likely eating sensibly, drinking enough fluids, and getting
enough fiber will do the trick.

And let's not forget the importance of exercise! Sitting watching TV a

Before discarding the Blessed Herbs products once and for all, please
read this: I've ordered the Colon cleansing kits (2) and then Full
cleansing kit for my mom, who is 69 now. She started doing it last
year and had very little results from the first Colon cleansing she's
done. She actually did feel awful at some days whilst doing this
(probably the older you are, the more 'rubbish' you've got inside you,
that's why) and even wanted to stop, but her skin became visibly
cleaner, and she did fee better by the end of the procedure. Half a
year later she tried again, this time it worked 'like a charm', she
started again with the Colon cleansing, then Full cleansing. Her dark
age spots (and some were really dark) are practically non-existent by
now, she feels much better, more energetic and I am very grateful to
Martha Volchok, who is doing this, she is really helping people.
As for the usual 'fibre supplements' you find in the shops and
pharmacies, my mom tried so many of them, but... nothing worked, she
was getting constipated, feeling worse and worse, and her spots were
getting bigger and darker. She tried a lot of things, including
different dieting/ exercise programs etc., but Blessed Herbs is
actually the one and only program that gave her visible results that
she can also feel inside. I am not saying that this is a panacea for
all your problems, and everybody is different, but it might be worth a
try for you as well.

worked, Ended up spending a lot ofmoney believing their hype that was
a total failure for me and looking at other distributors it is the
same for them.

Then I came across DrNatura, This Colonix program Really Did Work and
I lost several pounds in the middle of winter when I was fairly well
snowbound and sedentary with no exercise and eating enjoyable holiday
meals. Everything that was advertised as what Will Happen, Did. I give
the DrNatura system a 100% thumbs up and thank them for my not having
to return to my Dr again for weight problems. My Cholesteral levels
dropped, I have tons of energy, My waist size went from 41 to 36
inches, and I now make fun of my doctor whom I haven't been back to
since beginning the program; His medical degree is only to Practice,
Not to Cure and Heal.

About everyone crowing about how Marilyn Monroe was a size 14: size
14: In the 1950s, a size 14 was equivalent to a size 8 now (36 bust,
38 hips). Marilyn Monroe was that size only briefly when she was
pregnant and at her very top weight. I once saw a pair of Marilyn
Monroe's panties in a glass case at a movie star resale shop, and they
were TINY.

I guess I was one of the 'suckers', because I bought Dr. Natura. But
in my defense, I DID do a lot of research and found of all the
products in that catagory, it was the most effective, safe, and was
actually what it claimed to be, with all ingredients disclosed. My Dr.
said, "I won't tell you TO take it, but I won't tell you NOT to take
it." Anyway, I did NOT experience the 'colon shaped' poo like some.
What I did find helpful was that it improved my situation with
constipation due to narcotic use for chronic degenerative disk disease
pain. The fiber was of a high quality and did not cause the bad
bloating and gas pain I had experienced with the over-the-counter
products.

In iridology and sclerology (reading the body's health and stresses of
organ systems, organs and tissues through tiny marks in the iris and
the whites of the eyes) I've noticed wonderful results in cleansing.
(I've seen obvious "healing patterns" and felt them in those locations
and using other techniques to confirm the more subtle readings.)
However, the product that I've used before has never created these
lumpy things. Also, I don't see the constant need for them and use
them only a couple of times in the year for a two week run each time.
As for a high fiber diet, I don't see a need for that. Contrary to
popular belief a high fiber diet is not as beneficial as thought. You
can be healthy while eating high fiber but you can be healthy eating
low fiber as well. When following my organic diet of food combining
and sticking mainly with fats, proteins and vegetables along with
about 4 supplements my skin glows, my energy levels are high and don't
fluctuate all day, I have a bowel movement like once every one, two or
three days depending on the flucuation on fiber in the types and
amounts of veggies I eat, and I never feel extreme hunger although
eating meals that the old me would consider small. I only eat twice a
day which is great because I don't like to take more time than needed
just doing things to keep alive and in health.
I take Y.E.S. supplements: P.E.O.'s (EFA's with specific qualities);
Essaic formula sometimes in liquid form; and truly chelated minerals
(many products offer minerals together with amino acids but not truly
bonded to them in which case you could just as well eat a piece of
meat with your colliodial minerals for less money). I also take Bob
Barefoot's Coral Calcium, but usually not the full 2000 mg just
because I don't sense the need for that much in myself with the other
things that I do.

The other things that people do make a huge difference too. I practice
a form of bioenergy healing on myself each morning (10 min) which
greatly expands the affects of anything else I do for my health. (I
adjust my bone, vital organ and other structures into alignment,
integrate one or two emotional "cysts" back into my energetic self,
and cycle my brain tissues.) I don't drink 8 glasses of water I maybe
drink half that but get much more use out of what I do drink and don't
pee all day. That's just an example of the compound effects of this
bioenergy. It is the yin mode of energy techniques taught in the
Quantum Touch. (What I like about them is they don't get all
phylisophical, back it up with references which you can look up
dealing with true quantum physics and other sciences, and teach it
quickly so you can go on your way. However, those in QT do add in
their beliefs and philosophies. You can't avoid it completely but more
completely than I've ever seen.)
I use a rebounder for exercise about 10 minutes a day on average but
sometimes just for fun.

Though not for health I find that the process of reading as trained by
"Reading Genius" course trainees actually improves my emotional health
and quiets much chaos in my body and mind. (Search online. It is
legit. Humans can learn as fast as you can flip pages, enjoy and
retain 100's of % more than ligual or subligual speeds.) I use this
same process to get into "the zone" for many things that I do during
the day. I notice that I always feel more healthy throughout the day
when I'm in the zone. (Content too is important. I endeavor to keep my
mind fed on only morally and spiritually clean information. Of course,
my beliefs define those perimeters.)
I practice Emotional Freedom Techniques daily. It's free and it works
for many things without a lot of concentration which my other
bioenergy disciplines require.

I practice and use a "phenomenal memory" throughout the day which if
you do a search on line you will see how that could add to confidence,
clarity, and control of your life. When you can store and recall every
type of information at will in a heartbeat of time and otherwise
control it you remove a lot of confusion from your mind and in your
life. Hence, better decisions and better health.
I also have adopted a clear life purpose since I was three years of
age and whenever sticking with it (with growing maturity I have more
self-control to do so) I've experienced nothing but peace even through
the worse things, but when I've let go I've had the worse health even
in the seemingly best circumstances! Life purpose is number one. I
believe through adequately and ongoingly tested proof that mine is in
sync with the planet, the universe, the future and the Creator.

I also realize that perfect health is not a reachable goal at this
time so I do not reach for it. I expend all my energy to fulfill my
life's purpose each day and keep life simple. I use as much wisdom and
as little energy as possible in being healthy and use that health,
energy, time and all other resources to work at my purpose. That makes
me happy, and being happy aids in keeping me healthy even when I
cannot eat the best foods, breathe the best air, and drink the best
water. It also makes me nearly impervious to marketing ploys. Plus,
I'm a marketer myself so I can see through garbage.
Biggest thing to stay out of the cleanse hype and all other things
though is ask the questions that really matter in order to find your
purpose. What is life about? Who is the Creator? What am I supposed to
be doing? How could I find out?

Great Hub, Maddie! I used to wonder about things like this, but
realized that most of the promoters of these types of products aren't
even doctors! Also, as you say, our bodies are made well and pretty
much do their jobs, barring serious conditions like cancer. Also, I've
heard from qualified people that the statements of fecal matter being
in one's intestines for years is pure myth in itself. Thanks for
showing these products to be the pure hype that they really are.
Again, great hub!

Dave Lebowitz says:

I think you're off base on this one, Maddie. My nutritionist
recommended a colon cleanse for me 9 years ago, which I have been
doing every year since. The cleanse was formulated by Robert Gray, and
described in his THE COLON HEALTH HANDBOOK. It is obvious to me that
the resulting stools were very old fecal matter, not only from their
ropy, twisted, scalloped, snakelike, and well defined shapes, but
especially from the fact that they were remarkably wrinkled, a quality
I had never seen in my stools before my first cleanse.

Try to learn more about this subject before you criticize it. I
recommend that you read the Colon Health Handbook by Robt. Gray. Then
you'll have a better understanding about internal cleansing, and
you'll see that the science is sound.
Yes there may be some hucksters and rip-offs out there offering
ineffective products, but the need for internal cleansing is a fact of
life. It's just as important as bathing or showering.

I have had a lot of success with a product called So Easy Three-Day
colon cleansing product produced by a Malaysian company called INS. I
believe that this was included in those "gift bags" to the stars at
last year's Grammy or Academy Awards. It really helped me last year
lose about 5 pounds of "muccoid plaque", the black, rubbery, and
rope-like stuff that builds up on the inside wall of your colon. I am
assuming this stuff was preventing absorption of nutrients. The
three-day regimine is expensive ($180 for the three boxes) but there
is a lot of water and wheatgrass-based powered mix to drink, so you
only get hungry psychologically-speaking. Most folks only need to the
3-day program once a year and it is on the first try that all the 20+
years of stuff comes out; after that, it's mosttly maintenance.
Silvia says:

Jen says:

I too have often wondered if these types of products create something
inside you that comes out instead of just intestinal buildup. This is
from the Colonix website...
"It helps to keep the colon clean and waste matter moving freely and
efficiently by creating a spongy, gelatinous mass in the bowels. By
swelling and absorbing fluids, it breaks down and moves toxic waste
matter stuck in the folds and crevices of the colon."

The website itself says it creates a mass & that mass has to come out,
so obviously part of what is coming out is the product. I also have to
wonder if the mass the product creates could get stuck in your bowels.
On the other hand, I know people who have had similar stories about
what comes out when doing colonics, which is only water. Although, I
know in at least one case the person was also taking herbal
supplements, etc.

lilly says:

i tried the colonix and i did get the nasty rubber stuff in my BM, but
now i'm doubting if its caused by the colonix itself.

Ricky o
Have you talked to a doctor or a dermotologist? Lots of sleep, healthy
food, exercise, and water always work.. and most people search for
other methods than something that actually takes work. So why don't
you try that first and if it doesn't work, search for another method.

I think my main problem is not wanting to do those things myself,
causing a BM only every other day and the want to spend hundreds of
dollars for products that a little work could prevent. I'd like to be
healthy without any work but it won't happen.

  1. points id like to make... being a member of the medical field I have had the unfortunate opportunity of seeing the inside of peoples colons. Assisting with colonoscopys. Never have I ever seen a build up of anything. The walls are pink. All they have the patient do it go on a liquid diet. They can drink anything they want as long as its just liquid. point 2 Benedryl is used as a sleep aid in many products. If you go to you local drug store and look under sleep aids, the cost of a small bottle will vary between $4 to $12 and all only have benedryl and the same dose even. You go to the Allergy section, an alas same thing benadryl all in different packaging, all at the same dose all at different prices. You pay for packaging, you pay for advertising, you pay for brandnames. So really what can all this fancy colon cleansers do that a simple fiber supplement can't... empty your wallet.

LET'S SEE WHERE TO START...I DISCOVERED THIS SITE WHILE RESEARCHING
COLONOSCOPY PREP VS A COLON CLEANSING PROGRAM. I HAVE HAD CHRONIC
DEPRESSION AND CHRONIC FATIGUE FOR YEARS AND RECENTLY STARTED SEEING A
THERAPIST AGAIN. MY THERAPIST RECOMMENDED COLONIX DURIN GMY LAST
SESSION. LAST NIGHT I SPENT QUITE A WHILE RESEARCHING THE PRODUCT,
READING THE TESTIMONIALS, AND VIEWING THOSE HORRIFIC PICTURES. TO TELL
YOU THE TRUTH I WAS SOLD MYSELF, UNTIL I READ THAT THE FIBER TASTES
LIKE BANANA...I CAN'T EVEN SMELL BANANA W/O GAGGING...
SO HERE MY STORY GOES...I HAVE DEALT WITH
BLOAT/NAUSEA/CRAMPS/CONSTIPATION FOR SEVERAL YEARS...AS OF ABOUT 4
YEARS AGO MY FATIGUE AND SLUGGISHNESS STARTED THE DOCTORS DID EVERY
TEST IN THE BOOK, THEN DIAGNOSED ME W/ CHRONIC FATIGUE. RECENTLY AS OF
MARCH I DECIDED TO HAVE THE TUMMY ISSUE ADDRESSED DUE TO THE FACT THAT
IT WAS GETTING MUCH WORSE AND DUE TO THE FACT THAT I AM OLDER NOW AND
AM NOT EMBARRASSED ANY LONGER. MY DOCTOR PUT ME ON A WHEAT FREE GLUTEN
FREE DIET TO RULE OUT CELAEIC DISEASE... WHICH ONLY MADE THE
CONSTIPATION WORSE DUE TO THE FACT I WAS GETTING NO FIBER (KEEP IN
MIND THAT I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A HEALTH NUT, EXERCISE 5-6 TIMES A WEEK
INCLUDING WEIGHTS, AND DRINK AT LEAST A GALLON OF WATER A DAY)...THE
PAIN GOT SO BAD THAT I HAD TO BE PUT ON A MED TO EASE THE PAIN, BUT IN
TURN CAUSED CONSTIPATION...GO FIGURE.

MY FATHER HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED W/ CHRONES DISEASE, SO I DECIDED TO GET
AN EVALUATION FROM HIS GI DOCTOR. AFTER MONTHS OF DIFFERNET MEDS (THAT
DID NOT WORK) NUMEROUS TESTS SUCH AS: UPPER GI/SMALL BOWEL FOLLOW
THROUGH, BARIUM ENEMA, COLONOSCOPY, GASTRIC EMPTYING STUDY, AND AN
ENDOSCOPY WE DISCOVERED THAT I HAVE A CONDITION KNOWN AS
GASTROPARETHIS. IT IS A CONDITION MORE COMMON IN DIABETICS IN WHICH
YOUR STOMACH EMPTIES SLOWER THAN NORMAL WHICH LEADS TO FOOD SITTING IN
YOUR STOMACH FOR HOURS AT A TIME, FERMENTING CAUSING EXCESS BLOATING,
PAIN, GAS. MORE MEDS...THE ONLY THING THAT HELPED MADE ME SUPER SLEEPY
AND JITTERY AT THE SAME TIME IT WAS AWEFUL, I COULDNT STAY STILL BUT
WAS FALLING ASLEEP AT THE SAME TIME AND IT MADE MY DEPRESSION WORSE.
THERE IS NO CURE FOR WHAT I HAVE, THE MEDS DID NOT WORK AND I STILL
DEAL WITH CHRONIC CONSTIPATION (TO THE POINT WHERE I WOULD GO SEVERAL
DAYS W/O A BM AND HAD TO TAKE LAXATIVES ONCE A WEEK. EATING SMALLER
MEALS DIDNT MAKE A DIFFERENCE, EATING SUPER HEALTHY...THE DR TOLD ME
TO TAKE FIBER SUPLEMENTS, THEN NOT TO THEN TO TAKE THEM...I WAS ALL
OVER THE PLACE. FOR A WHILE I WAS TAKING HEATHER'S TUMMY ACACIA FIBER
WHICH SPECIFICALLY FOR IBS. MY LAST ORDERS WERE TO TAKE CITRUCELL 4 X
A DAY AND 1/2 DOSE OF MIRALAX DAILY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE...I AM
ONLY 28 YEARS OLD AND MY QUALITY OF LIFE IS BLAH...
IT SEEMS AFTER MY COLONOSCOPY I AM THOROUGHLY CLEANED OUT (WHICH WAS
ONLY 4 MONTHS AGO)...AND LUCKY ME I HAD TO HAVE TWO OF THEM B/C AFTER
TAKING THE FIRST GALLON OF NASTY I WAS NOT THOROUGHLY CLEANED OUT, BUT
THEY DID THE PROCEDURE ANYWAY ONLY TO TELL ME I NEEDED TO PREP AGAIN
AND COME BACK IN THE MORNING...IT WAS AWEFUL! ALSO WHEN I WENT IN FOR
MY BARIUM ENEMAS (YES I SAID ENEMAS...I HAD TO DO THE SAME THING, B/C
I WAS NOT EMPTY) I TELL YOU IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE...IM NOT SURE IF
MY CONDITION WILL EVER IMPROVE...I DON'T WANNA WASTE ANYMORE MONEY IF
ITS NOT GOING TO WORK (I'VE ALREADY HAD 12K WORTH OF PROCEDURES) ONLY
TO FIND THAT I AM BACK TO SQUARE ONE. ANY ONE WHO HAS/IS GOING THROUGH
THIS YOU KNOW HOW DESPERATE YOU CAN BE TO GET SOME RELIEF...

I KNOW I WENT ON A LITTLE RANT HERE, BUT I AM AT WITS END TO FIND A
CURE-ALL...I DO NOT LOOK FOR MIRACLE DRUGS OR WONDER PILLS, I EAT VERY
HEALTHY, EXERCISE REGULARLY, AND DRINK TONS OF WATER...NONE OF THIS
HAS MADE A DIFFERENCE! I'VE BEEN CLEANSED FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER
AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED...
I AM GOING TO STICK WITH THE FIBER SUPPLEMENTS AND MIRALAX FOR
NOW...I'M GOING TO LOOK INTO STARTING ALOE VERA JUICE, PEPPERMENT OIL,
AND GINGER AS WELL...IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEAS OR FEEDBACK FOR ME I'D
LOVE TO HEAR FROM THEM. THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS :)

I have been suffering from Ulcerative Colitis the past 4 years and was
hospitalized two times within the past couple of months related to
concerns that I would rupture my colon/bowels due to lack of movement.
I have seen the commercials for this products. I think we all know we
are basically purchasing something at our own risk (minus the idea of
the 30 day return policy). I have read many of the reviews which seem
to deal with the overall purchase experience, forgetting that you can
buy these products at your local GNC for a discount..... and the same
or similar return policy. Regardless, due to my health issue, I have
to be careful with laxatives, but am having a hard time off and on due
to medications, stress, etc. I started this product yesterday, I did
not swell up like with other similar products, I had a little cramping
likely because of my colitis, but it seems to be helping me. Nothing
is guaranteed, but if it helps some of us then great. If not, remember
GNC, Vitamin World, Vitamin Shop vs feeling like you are pressured to
order it right then and there from the TV.

Muggsy and Scotch,

i work with a parasitologist. Yeah, parasites. Every BODY has them,
even in developed nations. Don't believe it, google 1993 Milwaukee
crypto(sporidium). We are yet to do research, but have piles of
anecdotal observatios and client testimonials. We use a whole foods
(as medecine) approach here that is effective and has treated many
symptoms. Is this evaluated by the FDA? No, we can't afford the
research for FDA evaluation. And until we can, we will not be able to
dictate, control, or buy the FDA seal of approval as pharmaceutical
companies do. My suggestion: ideally come to Bozeman, MT to see us.
Feel free to call us at 406 586 5515. Or, try the Dr. Natura in
combination with colon hydrotherapy. It's really simple. If the colon
doesn't work, then your nutritional needs will not be met. This causes
biochemical imbalances such as nutrient, vitamin, mineral defecits.
Then your endocrine system gets wacky - the thyroid goes nuts trying
to stimulate digestion to meet your metabolic needs. The liver and
pancreas respond. Then the adrenals get involved to keep up energy
needs. Before long you have thyroid or adrenal burnout, a grocery list
of other symptoms, and now compounding, perpetuating symptoms.
So, this is the simple version. The real deal is more complex and we
could develop a detailed explanation (as far as the science out there
has documented, depending on what we humans can yet measure -
SCIENCE!). The number one tool to your health is self-awareness.

Also, remember, our bodies are equipped over a long, long time to
maintain homeostasis. This was long before the advent of potassium
sorbate (and other preservatives), hydrogenated oils (and other highly
processed foods), high fructose corn syrup (or other highly refined
foods), or Equal (or other chemical substitutes for FOOD), or any
other chemically processed bulls%t that our bodies are only now
learning to digest. Then there's everything else - pharmaceuticals,
antibiotics, auto exhaust, water treatment, aluminum in your armpit
restricting our natural detox methods, blah blah blah.
It's a tough world, kid. Do your best. And if you feel horrible, get
back to basics. Maybe my soap box, may be your wellness and vitality.

I'm currently on day 18 of the colonix program and it has NOT been
working for me at all. I have gas, cramps, and fewer bowel movements
than before I went on the cleanse. I'm drinking plenty of water and
eating a very healthy diet, but nothing seems to work. It's especially
frustrating because my boyfriend started the cleanse at the same time
as me and he's having GREAT results.
Now I'm reading this thread and I just don't know what to believe.
Some doctors say we have about 10 lbs. of impacted fecal matter in our
colon and can show us all this buildup using xrays, while other
doctors say there's nothing up there and can show us our healthy,
clean colon during a colonoscopy procedure. How am I supposed to know
who's right? This whole colon cleanse clearly isn't working for me so
should I try colon hydrotherapy? Some say it's great, others say it's
harmful...

The whole reason I wanted to do a colon cleanse in the first place was
because I've become noticeably more fatigued, constantly bloated, and
all of a sudden have acne in my mid twenties. I used to be vibrant,
energetic, and fun. No I just feel gross and depressed most of the
time. The more I look into colon cleansing and other possibilities,
the more confused I get. Am I full of fecal matter and toxins? Do I
have candida overgrowth? Parasites? Do I need a spinal adjustment from
a chiropractor? Do I need to eat a raw food diet? Do a juice fast?
What the HELL?!?!?! I know I'm supposed to take responsibility for my
health, but since when did it become so difficult and confusing?

I can see that people in general are never going to agree one way or
the other. I am somewhat interested in the idea of colon cleansing ,
but not with anything harsh on my body in any way. A couple of years
ago , after being told that I have an irritated prostate , I looked
into some possible remedies and found that diet could supposedly help
me. So I tried a cleanse that I read about that was supposed to help
pull my bodies pH back towards alkaline. This is how it went ; two
days of nothing to eat , just water with lemon juice. (this was pretty
hard to do , since I am a chef and am around delicious food all day )
Next was three days of nothing but fruit , three meals a day. And then
seven days of just fruit and vegetables . For the first four days , I
didn't have a single bowel movement and thought that this was rather
strange , what with the fruit diet . Then after the fourth day , I
would have about three or four movements per day , and they were
rather urgent , no real warning or build up so to speak . Just like a
drill sergeant saying , 'Move , move move !!!!! This is not a drill
!!!' :) Around the same time , I started getting lots of pimples ,
someone told me that was the toxins and stuff working their way out
through my skin. After about the sixth day , my poop was green and
didn't really stink anymore. I'm a fairly big guy , six three 200
pounds , so I found that I had to eat very large amounts of vegetables
to feel even close to full . Over the course of the twelve day diet ,
I lost thirteen pounds , some of which I figure must have been old
junk sitting around in my colon , even though I have always been quite
regular on my usual diet , which always includes meat . I found it
pretty hard to stick to this eating regimen and probably couldn't have
done it if I hadn't had in the back of my mind that when it was all
over I could have "real food" again . After I went back to my old ways
of eating , it took a little over a month for my weight to go right
back up to where it was before , since weight loss was not why I did
it , I didn't really care. In retrospect though , I would have to say
that I did feel better while eating that way , even for such a short
time.

that has always struck me about the claim of disgusting plaque stuck

colonoscopy or endoscopy footage showing this plaque?

What you do see, to my layman's eye, is moist, clean looking tissue.
Hmm....

ll you have to do is try to have organic fruit and vegetables, stay
away from red meat as much as you can, and try to excersize. It may
not be easy to change your living habits but once you do, you'll feel
the difference. Try to stay avtive in order to keep your metabolism at
its fastest pace and your bowel movement will absolutely come to a
regularity soon. Water is the key since 3/4 of our body consist of
water. Flushing and replenishing your body's fluid keeps you healthy
along with excersize that keep your metabolism work and it also help
you burn your fat. For a quick solution for your constipation, try 6-8
mid size apricot preferably organic ones if you can find any. Eat
healthy and stay healthy. Don't forget to get away from city life to
fill your lungs with oxygen.
Good luck everyone.

Citroma--more known by its generic name of magnesium citrate. You
could easily substitute magnesium sulfate (epsom salt). It will clean
u out as if u swallowed a grenade, trust me (I'm a nurse). There's no
way pounds and pounds of stool will stick to your colon for years
"Like spackling paste." Stool in contact with your intestinal wall
will irritate and probably cause colon cancer. Increase fiber in diet.
Take a stick of celery as it is almost pure fiber. These expensive
cleansers may clean you out, but you can do it yourself and use the
money to go on a holiday (once you stop shitting your insides out)!

I have stayed up all night reading your comments. This what I have to
say. I am a 48 year old female with ADHD, take medicine for it and
until Aug of this year was a little on the heavy side. I started
eating correctly, i.e. a diet higher in fiber and cutting out diet
cokes, increase my water. To boot, included exercise five times a
week. I have lost a lot of weight, so wanting to lose weight is not
the issue here. My health is! I have always had trouble with bowel
movements and have been looking into doing a cleanse. Since I have to
take a stimulant for my ADHD, which I feel is hard on my body, I am
looking into natural ways of doing this. Do I believe there is build
up in a persons body? Yes, if you can go for weeks at a time without
having movements. Since I fall into this area, I KNOW I need a good
cleaning. After reading all of the postings, here is what I have
decieded to do. Keep my money, use what I have at my house. Which is
fiber therpy and good old prune juice. It is all natural, so my
digistive system shouldn't become dependent on it. And if it does, so
what, it can't hurt me. It is just more fiber. I have also read that
some of the reason why we don't have movements is because we have weak
colon muscles, so I am going to include the right vit. and some good
old aloe verda to help with this problem. Yes, a lot of our heatlh
problems come from having unhealthly lifestyles, which in turn lead to
many illness, and birth difects, so on and so forth. We need to go
back and look at the basics for our heatlh before running to our
doctors. Are there things that we as layman can't cure, yes! But my
daddy who was a firm believer in taking vitimans and drinking prune
juice once told me this. Keep your gut clean and you will keep you
motor clean. By the way he is now a 84 year old man who just this last
year lost his teeth, still has a full head of hair and is not

I have read most of the entries and would like to say that the cleanse
for me would be stricktly for my IBS/Constipation problems. I am 44
and have been constipated since the age of 12. The fiber, water and
eat more prunes concept does not cut it for me. Though I wish it
would, some have no idea!! I sympathize with the young girl of 18 that
is already having to seek assistance with colon problems. My
colonoscopies have all been 100% up to standards, but that doesn't
help me with a bowel movement. Gas, bloating, and chronic consipation
is my life. I wish there was some relief out there , but my doctor and
Nurse Practioner have not found the cure. Tea's and laxatives are my
only resource, for that reason I can only say the shoe does not fit
for all. While many cleansing products may or may not work for some
people, we are in fact all different. And on another note, I always
have to keep in mind that doctors are "practicing" medicine. It is an
ever evolving subject.

To KathyP: check out the info about celtic diease. IBS is one of the
symptoms of this. It is a condition where you have reactions to wheat
gluten and other things which in turn mess with your digestive system.
You don't have anything to lose but time. Hope it helps.

Hello, I read most of the comments here and have come to the
conclusion that it is likely that an occasional colon cleanse is not a
bad idea. I've been researching the topic because I have had
constipation problems for a few years now, which is not typical for
me.

Not one to openly speak on such personal matters, this is strage, but
I will explain to clarify the issue. Up until recent years, I would
have "healthy" bms... about 1.5 to 2 inches in diamter, several inches
long, once or twice per day. For about three years now, they have
reduced to about 3/4" in diamater, a couple of inches in length, once
a day or so.
Also, I feel full even when I have not eaten for many hours, and
bloated when I eat a small meal. My immune system also does not seem
to be operating at full capacity.

This has lead me to put some credence behind the clogged colon theory.
What else would cause the change in shape and size, and the feeling of
fullness? Seems to make sense that there's matter in my system that
needs to be purged.
My conclusion on Colonix, etc. is that they might work, but other
remedies would be more effective... so:

--HAS ANYONE COME ACCROSS A GOOD REGIMENT OF HERBS FOR CLEANSING AND
DETOX, including instructions on quantity and frequency?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Everyone should read this. So true. If you want to clease your colon
pick up 2 1.5 oz. bottles of phosphosoda, 4 dulcolax tabs, and one 10
oz. bottle of magnesium citrate ($16.22). Compared to hundreds for
"herbal" colon cleansers. I use this as a prep for colonoscopy. I have
yet to see "waste on the colon like spackle or paste". Interestingly
your colon will be so clean you can see all the walls of the entire
colon. Amazing. Proven by hundreds of colonoscopies by direct
visualization through a videoendoscope. After this drink 3 tablespoons
of metamucil a day and at least 64 oz of water a day and your colon
will work at peak efficiency everyday. I just saved you hundreds of
dollars in scam products.

Stupid Consumer says:

Last year I had a colonoscopy and was required to do a one day liquid
diet followed by a liquid "clean you out" the morning before the
procedure (and spent a very long time "reading" in the bathroom).
Later that morning they took the usual pictures during the colonoscopy
which showed nicely pink walls on all the "sections" of the colon. The
point is, I knew I was totally clean inside.

So later, I thought about the infomercial I had seen with the
statements about the pounds of fecal matter in John Wayne's intestines
when he died. The implication being that I, too, could have that
condition and not know it. At the time, it concerned me enough that I
went down to the local health store and bought (what looked like) the
best herbal cleanse product they had.
I consider myself more knowledgeable than most on medical and health
issues, and unusually resistant to sales pitches, but here I was with
the hook, line and sinker fully swallowed! I'm appalled at my own
ignorance and the ability of these hucksters to legally say what they
say and sell what they sell.

Label me another Stupid Consumer.

This is really weird that so many people are concerned about how much
crap comes out. I've taken metamucil for several years now and never
had any funky things come out. I also eat oatmeal for breakfast for
about two weeks out of the month. And the WORMS i don't think there
are a lot of adults walking around with worms? I think only children
get worms from playing/eating in dirt etc.. Adults could probably get
worms from cats or dogs tho.

Good article.

A las, a site that isn't sponsored by one of the very companies I was
trying to research. Thank you sooooo much for getting this truth out.
I've been researching "colon cleansers" unsuccessfully now for weeks
trying to locate something that felt like the REAL TRUTH. I was about
to fall prey to Colonix, Acai berry, or Dr. Natura. For some reason,
my gut was telling me that their claims were a little too good to be
true; especially not ever hearing about any of them from my Dr.'s etc.
Thanks so much for taking the time to enlighten those of us who are
critical thinkers and try to research before making a decision. I can
feel comfortable now just adding more fiber to my diet and drinking
more water and know that mother nature will handle the rest. The
comments were also great, it was quite evident that these were real
people!!!!
Rich says:

My fellow Americans, please, please use some critical thinking. Here's
a rule that you need to learn: If it's on an infomercial, it's a scam.
Why is that so hard for people to figure out? Companies aren't giving
away miracles at 4am. They are trying to separate you from your money.
You can't get something for nothing, whether that's six pack abs,
losing 50 pounds overnight, making a million with no money down, or
fuller breasts. It's all a big fat lie. You wan't to lose weight? Eat
less and exercise more! That advice didn't even cost you anything. Now
here's the kicker. 99.9% of you won't lift one finger to follow that
advice. No, you'd rather try and buy your way to a healthy body and
riches. The problem is that you are just lying to yourself and getting
poorer in the process. Sorry if this hurts but someone needs to give
you a reality check.

Use Epsom salts, one tablespoon stirred in a small glass of water
(cost a few pennies) at bedtime. This works to clean out your colon
without painful cramps. Also, the benefits of drinking wine (red or
other) kills parasites.
wade says:

I agree w/Rich...above post. Seems the latest craze is EXTENSE! I'm
working on a get rich scheme like extense right now. It will be
painful, as you will have to insert a small tube in the end, give it a
few pumps, (BLOW IT UP), pull out the tube, & wallah you're HUGE. Any
buyers??? Back to the article at hand, Colon cleansing. I've had IBS
for 30 years now, & have gone through countless drugs, fiber
supplements, etc...to no REAL fix. I have not tried Colonix, so maybe
i'll give it a shot. I already spend $50 for 30 pills of Aciphex
(prescribed by my doc). It helps, but doesn't heal. Pepsid ac works
best, but i'm fed up w/drugs. There's got to be a better way. I also
have a job as a flight attendant, & it's real embarrasing hogging the
aft lav on a flight. So, looks like I will have to take a week off, to
see if the cleanse will cause a stink (so to speak). I have been
flying for 25 years, & have flown all over the world, & did pick up a
parasite, that damn near killed me. I attended a real island lua on
the island of Majuro in the western pacific. I tried the sea turtle, &
all kinds of exotic crap, & boy I paid the price. Lost 35 lbs in a
week, would eat, & 2 minutes later, it was through me. Doc in Hawaii
said i was dehydrated to the max, & could have died from body organs
quitting. So, always drink plenty of water, especially when flying.
Today I flew in from El Salvadore, took a nap, & woke up w/the runs. I
didn't even eat down there, but did brush my teeth from the 5 star
hotel's faucet. Went poop 4 times in a half hour. Hopefully the colon
cleanse will get me back on track, & if $165 gets me to feel better,
all the better, as the Aciphex is $50 a month. Also, my doc says i
will have to take it the rest of my life. I'm 48 now, so that will put
me in the poor house in a lifetime of use. If the colon cleanse fails,
at leats i will know it won't work for me. My suggestion to all on
here, is try different things, if they work, then you found the
answer. It could very well save you a ton of dinero in the long run.
Happy Poops!

I enjoyed reading your website. However my experience was different
with the colonix product.I use to make my own cleanse for my husband
and I,then when relatives from another state ask me to recommend a
cleanse as part of health improvement regiment I went looking for one
that had the ingredients I put into my home made cleanse online in a
cleanse product.DrNatura.com (whom I had never heard of) website
listed most of the ingredients I used in my own formula.I tried it for
60 days.I documented the project for myself only.I collected samples
and looked at them under a microscope(as I am a huge "Doubting
Thomas")I indentified several of the parasites (that were not
microscopically too small) from a parasite chart. It is not pleasant to
think about these things when it comes to our bodies I know.Only I
believe it is a huge mistake for our society to treat our pets and not
think for a moment that human bodies are not in need of treatment of
parasites and worms.Colonix worked for me and several other people I
know.I have gone back to making my own cleanse although I would not
hesitate to use the colonix (I have not used their Toxinout)again even
though they have subtracted some of the original ingredients.I hope
this shared info adds to the work that you are doing and I plan on
bookmarking this sight to keep informed with what you do.Thank you for
putting this up for us to read and learn from.

cleansing my system of any substance that my be stuck in my body. I
have regular BM 3 to 4 times a day and I don not have regular gas or
any other stomach issues. I drink a 1/2 to 1 cup of prune juice every
morning along with my daily vitamins and within 1 t 2 hours I have a
very large loose movement. A friend of mine told me that I was just
emptying what was in my stomach but not ridding my body from anything
that is stuck in my colon. Is this true? Will the colon cleanse do
anythng for me is is my daily dose of prune juice ridding me of all my

It's all natural and is safe to take long term unlike a lot of stuff
you might try.Of course common sense tells you that if you take a bulk
producer like Psyllium Husks of course its going to take the shape of
the colon just like anything that gums up. Take a bowl of high fiber
cereal and then look at your crap it takes a new shape than if all you
ate was a meat diet. Plus the odors are different when you take say
fast food like taco bell than if you ate a nice healthy salad.Remember
its justCommon sense when it comes to crap.

Has anyone here ever had a colonoscopy? If you want a squeaky-clean
colon, the prep for the colonoscopy will give you one--and the
colonoscopy can be a lifesaver. I was awake during one of mine (in NC
the doctors don't put you in a twilight sleep like they do in the
state I currently live in), and I was able to see the inside of my
colon on the monitor as the doctor was doing the colonoscopy. The prep
procedure (one day of a liquid diet and then drinking some awful stuff
followed by lots of trips to the bathroom!) leaves your colon
perfectly clean--so clean that the doctor can examine the entire
lining of the entire colon as he or she looks for any polyps, etc.
People do not have pounds worth of stuff built up on their colon
walls. That is just nonsense. Don't waste your money on that stuff.
Eat a high fiber diet and drink plenty of water, and you should be
just fine.

First off I have to admit that I got suckered in with Colonix. I have
not started yet, but I was very excited about starting....that's
before I came accross this Hub. I have honestly read every single
comment on here and still feel pretty torn. One side of me tells me
that the colon cleanse dosent really help you with anything. I am
strongly considering the nasty formula that was posted for pre
colonoscopies. Althogh this might clean out my colon it wont help
detox the rest of me. Should I still try the Toxinout after I have
cleansed my colon? I had such high hopes for the Colonix and Toxinout.
I was really hopeing that it would change my life and help me feel
better about living in general (Increased energy, hair groth; since
mine has not grown since I was 14 and am now 24, bloating and I would
have LOVED a flatter stomach). Now I am back to square one and will
try to accept that fact that I will probably always feel like crap as
I cannot afford to eat mass amounts of fruits and vegies which I would
love to eat if only the normal person could afford to eat them
everysingle day. Does anyone else have the issue of not being able to
afford to eat organic produce everyday? I constantly battle depression
do to lack of natural energy and I just dont know what do to :'(

I could only manage to read thru about 1/2 of the comments, and I see
a reoccurring theme. First off, the reviews of Colonix are about
50/50; worked for about 50%, not for about 25%, and the other 25%
didn't try it and believe in home remedies. I do agree that there are
about 100 other concoctions that you could use to clease a colon (aloe
vera, epsom salt, fiber, prune juice, etc), but none of those actually
kill parasites. I saw so many comments where users of this products
actually saw physical entities in their stool, leading me to believe
that one of the benefits of Colonix over home colon cleansers is that
it kills these parasites. I would prefer to kill both birds with 1
stone.

i had a lot of discomfort and rashes when i travelled for a long time
and had two bouts with parasites. i went to a naturopath who gave me
colonics 2x a week for a few weeks. burning hot acid came out of my
body, and when he put an alkaline tester under my tongue he found that
my body had gone from extrmeley acidic to alkaline in just a day. i
saw this with my own eyes and after that felt less depressed and had
less of the rash. later i did the blessed herbs cleanse. the combo of
the increased water intake and the sweeping of the toxins gave me
boundless energy and the lines on my face literally disappeared. when
the weird stuff started coming out i was skeptical too, it looked like
just a bunch of fiber, but after a week of fasting and only ingesting
apple juice mixed with water and the psyllium/clay mixture, dark black
and dark green stuff shaped like my colon and smelling absolutely foul
(like a subway station bathroom!) sorry but true, came out in a
massive startling amount. i can see how people would be doubtful to
the validity of these products, but i have tried it and have had great
results.

years ago when i became aware of the "childrens'" book "everybody
poops" i thought, "what is this world coming to?" i never read it and
maybe it's great but, come on! well, after perusing all of these
responses maybe there should be an adults' book called "everybody
thinks about their poops." that is with good reason though since you
can't seem to get through a visit with the doctor without answering
questions about your toilet habits. well, hey, if you're having
problems in that area that is a big clue to a physician on where to
start looking so you should always be forthcoming. well, i did sign on
to make some points so i'll get to it. miss maddie has made the basic
point that what you "put into you" will come out of you. despite my
noblest aspirations i don't eat very well and my mealtimes are very
irregular. working the graveyard shift doesn't help and eating fast
food and take-out keeps me alive but i sure don't usually feel 100%. i
also like me some beer. needless to say i am not necessarily always
pleased as i leave the bathroom. despite this i am six foot, two and
hover around 200#and pushing the ripe old age of 35. by the
BMI...hmm...the BMI...i am a little overweight but i'm actually kinda
skinny. also, my good cholesterol is very high and my bad is very low.
as i said i am not eating very healthy but it looks like the genes may
be working for me here. the genes also give me some severe lower g.i.
problems! something in the gut has a tendency to swell up and cause
obstruction and massive pain and it's not my appendix as the doctor
says. well, this is getting long and boring so let me say this: i have
had great results taking unprocessed psyllium every few days. it is
for sure that it adds otherwise un-achievable bulk to the results i
see in my "leavings" but it keeps things moving and dammit if i've
noticed a marked reduction in odor! maybe that's due to regular
evacuation, i don't know but i haven't had any pain in years and i
sure feel great when it empties me out. just don't take more than a
couple of tablespoons at once...the word imminent and the phrase "get
out of my way" come to mind! i think the real point is this: if you
are eating regular meals and they include good portion from all of the
food groups (hey, we ARE omnivores and that food group idea is
actually pretty sound) then, barring any maladies, you're gonna do
fine. at a friend's suggestion i also started taking a daily
multivitamin and that seems to help with my energy levels especially
during those silly, unexpected schedule changes. above all of this
just know that your mind has supreme control over your body. your
brain is already giving orders and you kinda, sorta live in your brain
so never allow your body to dictate how the day will go. thaks for
sparking such such a robust conversation maddie and thanks to everyone
for being so civil while still being so honest. i guess i'll have to
check out some of your other postings maddie.

I understand the skepticism, but I've fasted using the Master Cleanser
fast- which is water, lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne. I couldn't
believe what came out of me...and I took nothing in . Our bodies, and
cells can become clogged with mucus and toxins that our lymphatic
systems can not remove fast enough. When this happens we start feeling
sluggish, depressed, and have numerous physical complaints. Sorry,
Maddie, I'm sure some products are scams, or claim to much, but our
bodies are living systems...of course if you put psyllium, or whatever
in a glass, and leave it for days you will have gook. But our bodies,
in their ideal states, are living and moving...nothing should come out
of our bodies that looks like the scare pictures, unless there is a
problem, and we are backed up. If we are removing fecal slime, then we
are stagnant!!! Period.

All you idiots trying to figure it all out. If you're skeptical about
something, ask a doctor. Read a medical journal. Just be intelligent
about whatever crap you're trying to put into you body. People will
never learn, they will constantly fall for sales people. If haven't
taken a normal shit in over a week, call the damn doctor. Anyone
running to you trying to sell something should alway always put a
question in your mind. And do you ever see a doctor running to you
trying to make a buck? hell no. He or she is there for a reason and
they didnt spend 8 years in college for nothing. As I rant, your
probably dont have to guess where i stand with this. Its just pure
common sense that this colon cleanse is all crap. no pun. Trust your
physician, eat healthy, get off your ass and exercise everyday and you
could quite possibly live past the average age of a human, which is
about 74 in the US. and put down your McDonald's and eat a vegetable.
This could be your bloating and upset stomach issue.

Colonix does, too, work!!! After about six days I did shed a
seven-inch rope that could not be cut up; I tried! I don't shed ropes
every day but I know that's coming. Just yesterday (my ninth day) I
shed a long, black rope about ten or eleven inches long. If you look
at the pictures on the Colonix web site the stools change from black
to brown to yellow as time goes on. And what color is bile-brown!!! So
those black ropes and black mucus, too, are very old poop, indeed! I
now feel better; I was getting fevers at the end of nearly every day,
and terrible itching before I started the Colonix program. As for the
people who did not get any results with the Colonix or it caused
cramping, did you follow the directions, guys!! Also, every person's
body is different. I'm fifty-six years old and sometimes my bowel
movements were hard, pebbley looking stools or the movements were
thin. I've been sick a lot of my life. I had Hodgkin's Disease when I
was thirty. I know a lot about the human body, mainly because I've
experiemented on myself and know what works. If your intestines are
full of sludge then you need to clean them out! My eye, lung, and skin
allergies are much better now! My energy has also increased. I'm not a
spokesperson for Dr. Natura, either but I'm going to ask them what I
can do for their company!

If I had read this hub only a week earlier, I would not have ordered
the colon cleaning kit from Blessed Herbs. I feel sort of foolish now
for having purchased the thing, but I think I'll go through with it
anyway just out of morbid curiosity. (Like so many here, I wanted to
see that famous rope of hope.)
I'm on day three of a pre-cleansing where you're supposed to gradually
reduce your food intake to prepare you for the five-day fast. Although
it's not really a fast if you're downing those fiber packets all day
long with an orchard full of apple juice, is it?

I'm not sure what's in those stimulator pills that you take before
dinner, but they've really got me going. So tomorrow morning, it's
adieu food, bonjour fiber and herbs for the next five days. (Why does
this remind me of hazing in college?)
At any rate, if the whole thing turns out to be a crock of, well, you
know, I'll be sure to report back, gentle readers.

I have no issues with constipation, digestion or any of that. I did
read several testimonials about some wonderful euphoric feeling you
get around the fourth or fifth day of detox. It may, however, turn out
to be plain old denial and rationalization...

huge worms and month's overdue impacted stools being passed by people.
It's EXTREMELY unlikely for a human to have tapeworms-unless they've
been on unhealthily familiar terms with thier pets' anus, and if you
had fecal matter of huge proportions trapped in your gut for such
extended periods of time you'd be severely-read hospital patient-ill

Yay! Thanks for this thread...I can't believe it's been going for two
years. I googled colon cleansing because I'm interested in a general
body detox and pretty quickly got to the Colonix website. I was
totally fascinated by all of the pictures and even sent the link to my
boyfriend (ew, gross!)

But after reading a few of the testimonials and finding out you had to
do it for 3 months and that the poop ropes were still coming out after
all that time, it just sounded too fishy. I would think that with time
as the product cleaned you out, the ropes would diminish and
eventually go away and leave you with normal poops. Since it sounds
like they don't diminish at all my brain-light went on and I
thought...ahhh, the stuff you take is probably causing it and that's
why it takes a little time for it to start working as well. With such
fascinating results, it must be easy to get people to keep buying the
product!
I just wanted to confirm my hunch and did that and more by reading
(most of) this thread. Also, just wanted to add that I'd be concerned
about any product that requires you take a laxative - such as the
herbal tea - for an extended amount of time. A lot of Americans are
"hooked" on laxatives because once they start taking them the muscles
of the colon stop working on their own. In turn, you need to take more
laxatives just to do what your body used to do naturally.

I've heard good things about coffee enemas, both for cleansing the
colon and stimulating the liver for further detox. I'll be picking up
some psyllium husk myself to see how that works.
Thanks for all the useful and insightful comments from all the
skeptics.

Poop on!

benefits of GOOD health through illiminating bad waste, and
detoxifying there intestines!!! Over the years i have read all the
horror stories, seen all those alien looking pictures from other
products that supposedly have cleaned the intestines, i am very

I pretty much looked at all the comments and didn't see any mention of
a program called Blessed Herbs. I have done just about everything from
colonics, the master cleanse, the sunshine clense to oxy powder (which
does do a good job). But I have a chronic condition called Psoriasis.
I've had this skin condition which plagued me from head to toe for 8
years. Most recently, I was prescribed a steroidal topical ointment.
It caused me to gain about 30 pounds in a short time and all kinds of
other steroid overdose symptoms.

To claim back my health from what the doctors gave me, I wanted to
cleanse myself. After stopping the medications, my condition flared
outrageously and the worst it had ever been. I did the Blessed Herbs
cleanse which consists of 5 days fasting with supplements and within
those 5 days, I passed several of the "ropes" discussed on this
thread. My stomach did get flatter and never came back after I
finished. But the most important part, is that my Psoriasis had a
marked improvement, almost clear, in 5 days!! I've been battling this
for years with anything that was ever labled to help the psoriasis
condition.
So I must conclude, without any scientific evidence, without doctors
backing me on it, without the FDA's approval, without any desire for
monetary gain, the program works. If it can produce such results,
could it really be bad for me? I cannot believe so. And if you can do
something or find something that does improve your well being no
matter how miniscule, does it really matter what any one says?

~ The key ~

Seed husk, thats it people!
1. Go to any drug food store like walgreens are rite-aid, even walmart
and buy it for about 5.00 - 20.00 depending on size amount and brand.

2. take as directed.
3. B.M. alot more often - lose alittle weight also!!! ( but... if you
still have only 1 B.M. a day or less, drink more water and juice ).

The psyllium seed husk does gel in the body acting like a sponge as it
soaks up water, the sponge now has the ability to absorb toxic
substances off the wall of your colon! and then pushes from top to
bottom the B.M. out. { Dont be another duck for those money scammers!
} and cheers to us for spreading the word ~ keep it up..

I have my suspicions that using a colon cleanse actually brought on
Rheumatoid Arthritis, as crazy as that sounds. I went from jogging
several miles a day to being unable to sit up in bed by myself, walk
50 feet without help or turn the shower handles - all in a matter of a
month after using the cleanse. After struggling to find the right meds
I tried probiotics and have noticed a marked improvement, thus
substantiating my thoughts on the cleanse. This is dangerous stuff!

I don't think that this hub is based on facts that can be proved.
There is a book called Bible Cures What You Dont know Might Be Killing
You... He tells you how to cleanse your colon naturally and he also
links all of the sicknesses that we encounter daily to the colon not
being healthy and being congested with fecal matter.

It's true that our bodies were designed to get rid of the waste and
toxins that are inside but we were supposed to be eating the meat and
fruit of the land with out the pesticides and the like that the
animals eat and are injected with everyday. Instead everything that we
eat is tainted in one way or another (Processed foods etc...)
I am a war vet and I am also lactose intolerant but when I was over
seas I could for some reason enjoy the milk without getting bloated or
any of the other frustrating ways that it affected me. Soon as I came
back home I tried some milk and it started affecting me the same way
again. I also noticed that the chickens were smaller because they
don't inject there food with the steroids and hormones like we do
which explains why they didn't have as many obese people as we do.

Take a look at all of the cases of diabetes that are all of a sudden
popping up everywhere many of those cases end up with kidney failure
and dialasys and then sadly death. The kidneys just like any other
major organ in our bodies get there nutrients from the vitamins that
are filtered into the blood stream through the colon.
If the colon is backed up or filled with the toxic waste then these
vitamins are tainted with toxins causing the other organs to get
tainted vitamins and the such. Which contaminates them and cause them
to work harder than they are supposed to and give out sooner than they
are supposed to.

Basically if we eat right from the start then we wouldn't need to
cleanse our colons but if we eat what is put in our heads to eat
through what we see and what we were taught to eat according to taste
then we are feeding ourselves poision and this poision will not leave
unless we remove it, like cysts, tumors and the like they are not
supposed to be there but they have to be removed by us most of the
time.
Sorry for the long post but I hate to see people thinking that a colon
cleanse is not necessary because of someone saying that they are a
bunch of crock. Everybody is different and every situation is as well.
Some people smoke for long periods of time and take medications for
long periods of time and these meds stay in the bloodstream and
through all of the filtering (like the liver and kidneys) these toxins
have to reside somewhere because they don't always get out.

Just like a pipe that gets water flowing through it constantly it
picks up debri and eventually the walls inside that pipe are going to
get thicker. The same thing with the colon only with the toxins and
chemicals from meds, processed food etc. What may be good for the
goose may not be good for the gander. Research for your selves before
you follow what someone else says about something being a scam.
Why do you think they lived so long back in the biblical days as
opposed to know? Look at there diets, foods that they ate etc...

Mart says:

I usually have about 2 BM each day. I eat a varied diet with very
little pre-processed food. I like to run and I have noticed that the
longer runs (half marathons and full marathons) send me 'running' to
the toilet. In fact the only way to be sure to avoid an accident is to
take an anti-diarhea tablet BEFORE the race. It then takes a couple of
days until my BMs return to normal. I can finish a half marathon
without taking a tablet as long as I visit the toilet straight
afterwards - in that case my BM is much looser than normal. But
running a full marathon without 'blocking up my colon' beforehand
results in diarhea. I'm not going to give up running but I do wonder
if the pre-emptive, repeated use of anti-diarhea tablets might have
unwanted long term side effects.

Re: worms, I never really thought about it, but after reading all the
posts on this thread I am now worried about them. What's the way to
find out and get rid of them? I gave my dog worming tablets once and
he got rid of a disgusting load of worms, like chocolate coated
spaghetti. Of course I don't go around drinking from puddles or
licking things that dogs do so hopefully I don't have worms ... but
what if I do? Are the same worming tablets that we give to our dogs
also safe for us humans? I guess worms are worms.

I saved the email with the confirmation number and it states 14 day

I disagree that all cleansing products are likely to be scams - I
think they serve a purpose.

I've found that I've produced tapeworms and mucous ropes the first
time I used the Colonix program. After I layoff, I resumed the
program, and I just have normal movements when I use it, no mucous
ropes so far, anyway.
And colonics (water kind not the cleanse brand) can produce the same
ropy stools, and the same stools that appear to have the shape of the
bowel wall. The cleanse product is designed to adhere too old fecal
matter.

A lot of things can affect how/whether a cleanse product will work for
any given individual. If a person is very dehydrated, that dehydration
will extend to the bowel, and would result in fairly unproductive
results at best, and blockage as a worst-case scenario, and could do a
poor job of soaking into and sucking toxins out of/off of the colon
wall. Yes, some people DO have poop-encrusted colons. I'd say more and
more people, and probably anyone with a poochy belly.
Also, the stools will vary in appearance depending on whether you eat
a meal with the fiber supplement or not.

Cleaning out the physical debris in the bowel is only one, albeit
important, piece of the health puzzle. Successfully removing any old
debris from the bowel allows that person to experience less toxic
exposure from old debris and increased ability to absorb nutrition,
but it is truly only a first step for people who have a lot of body
repair to do. It is only to be expected that some people will
experience dramatic improvements from this alone, and for others to
experience no change at all, either because their health was really
good to start with, or really bad to start with.
And to spread the news - modern toilets are one of the main reasons
that people in the western/developed world are so stopped up and full
of sht. You would be surprised to find out how and why squatting
would prevent many of the most common ailments in our culture, and
make any other treatments work much better.

I'm really happy that Nature's Platform created a way to replicate the
squatting position safely and easily using our existing toilets. Their
website explains why the squatting position is far superior to sitting
or even putting your feet up on a little stool to try to imitate
squatting. Elimination is so much easier and so much more complete
this way, and squatting protects us from so many problems. There is a
LOT of great information on their site. Check it out - it may
eliminate your need for many or all of your colon cleansing products.
I still think a good colon cleanse, be it homemade or a product like
Colonix, is probably something that many westerners could benefit
from...and the more they eat a standard American diet, the more they
need it.

much cayenne pepper do I put in the Master Cleanse recipe?

I have to agree with the people here who say that there is no medical
evidence that there is a "toxic build-up" in the colon due to
processed food, environmental pollution, etc. As a doctor on Web M.D.
put it, the colon is designed by nature (or God?) to get rid of
toxins. Another doctor on the Web stated that food just doesn't hang
around in the colon very long. It usually comes out in 2-3 days unless
you're constipated. The best way to help with this problem is to add
more fiber to your diet, preferably in the form of fruits and
vegetables. We don't enough fiber in the typical American diet. Also,
drink more water. Get more exercise. I've started to add about four
tablespoons of ground flax to morning cereal, soups and pastas and it
helps in relieving this problem. Metamucil also works. Good luck to
all with this problem.

Great article.
I cant believe I have sat here and read all of the comments. People
you need to do some basic research before you fall for the high priced
fix!

The term Mucoid plaque or rope was coined by an entrepreneur and
naturopath? called Robert Anderson, guess what he sold??
It has no medical basis in fact and is a biproduct of these snake oils
cures. It makes a perfect selling circle.

Worry people (adverts and pictures) this is called disturbance ,
offer to treat them and put their minds at rest

, cause the 'mucoid ropes' with the treatment, thereby proving that
they were worried with good reason!.
The beauty of it is the more you take the treatment the more 'ropes'
you produce thereby requiring more treatment.

Therefore the more you buy! £££$$$
Constipation and the associated bloatedness is usually a symptom of
dehydration, a lack of dietry fibre or asa side effect of medication.

Do as the majority of the sane people above have suggested, drink
water, eat more dietry fibre and exercise.
Or because it is easier, believe in the self fulfilling advertisement,
sit on your ass, pay loads of money and do nothing.

And by the way the total number of Tapeworm infestations in the UK
(population cica 56million) in one year was?
84! (relax!!)

And if you are still going to fall for all of this colonic cleanout
Sht, google the Bristol Stool Chart!

A colon clense is very important. If you don't have at least 2 good
bowel movements a day, your clogged up. This is a simple recipe that
will help. Take equal amounts of apple sauce, ground flax seed, and
prune juice. It may sound gross but it really isn't bad at all.
Joe says:

Not to belabor the point, but I read what a man who is an authority on
colon cancer said about this issue. He wrote that the colon changes
its entire cellular structure every few days. So how could there be a
toxic build-up from food you've eaten months or years ago, as the
people selling these products claim, as well as the people promoting
the equally dubious colonic irrigations. A woman who is a nurse wrote
that she has the dubious practice of looking up people's bums before
they have colonoscopies. She said in all the years of her practice
she's never seen any coating of toxins, only the tissue itself. I
think the folks that take products like colonix are constipated and
the symptoms of that problem are incomplete or infrequent bowel
movements. So when they take these capsules everything comes out of
them and they mistakenly think that this is the residue of impacted
waste that's been in their bowels for months or years(!). Impossible.
It's like that absurd story that John Wayne who died of colon cancer
has 40 pounds(!) of impacted feces in his colon when he was autopsied.
Trouble is, he was never autopsied! But if someone swears by these
products they should realize that they're not going to cure their
constipation. As so many others hear have noted, you have to increase
your fiber by 4-5 servings of fruit and veggies a day, drink 8-10 cups
of water and exercise. If you can't get that amoount of natural fiber
three teaspoons of metamucil with water can help. An old country
doctor told me another way to get your system moving is to eat
something. That seems to work. Also, try to go the same time every
morning and by all means head for the throne when you get the urge
because if you don't the colon can shut down. I just read another
possible cure from a lady who researched the Bible on natural cures.
Haven't tried it yet but it sounds harmless. A teaspoon of olive oil
at night before you go to bed. Good luck to all. Peace.

Just a few points from years experience grappling with this specific
subject.

1. While undergoing a routine colonoscopy, the colorectal surgeon
doing the exam told me that the majority of his business was
"surgically repairing ruptured colons caused by the effects of
Psyllium Husk." Apparently it outgasses, causing a real danger.
2. Antiparasidic drugs do not kill the parasite by poisoning it, there
are basically two types: One paralizes the organism to make it let go
of the attachment to the bowel, thus allowing it to pass through and
out. The second type of drug introduces a chemical into the intestines
that treat the shell, or coating of the worms, to allow your own
digestive juices digest them. It removes their protection against your
enzymes.

If you eat sushi, you can be in real danger. I don't think any
colonics or purges including homeopathic, could get the job done.
Dietary changes that would weaken the organism (eliminating sugar for
instance) would allow easier treatment.
adam says:

When getting a colonscopy don't they give laxatives, a jug of
medicine, or other medication to clear your bowels? So what's the
point of saying they are scams. You admit "the ropes" are just
gelatized psysilium so it's evident it is sliding down the colon and
absorbing fical matter and toxins. Maybe the ropes themselves are not
the buildup but it is proof that it is gliding down the walls of the
colon. How can you explain headaches and naseua when doing a cleanse
if it's not releasing toxins from the bowels?
kristin says:

I have used the blessed herbs colon cleanse successfully now on two
separate occasions. I opted for the 8 day fasting method both times so
there was no additional food entering the system. What I experienced
was an intense elimination of fecal matter that could have been there
for 2 days or two years for all I know but what I do know is that
there was a bunch of shit coming out and better out than in I say.
After all was said and done I not only felt lighter, had more energy
and clearer thought patterns but the irregularity that I once
experienced passed. Since that time I have come to know instinctively
when my body is bogged down with digestive difficulty, usually after
too much of a good thing. In any event I feel that colon cleanses do
definitely serve a purpose however one needs to eat with consciousness
and have body awareness or any amount of cleansing is only temporary.
Yes for cleansing, yes for eating right, yes for fasting, and no for
over indulging.

It just seems that colon cleansers are expensive laxatives. Many have
noted that Colonix has mostly psyllium fiber which is what's in
Metamucil. I saw another that had senna as the main ingredient. I've
used the herbal laxative Swiss Kriss with success in "cleaning" me
out--and it's under ten bucks. Here's a recipe for a "natural"
laxative I got in a book for cancer patients: 1/3 cup unprocessed
bran,1/3 cup applesauce, 1/3 cup mashed stewed prunes.

Blend all ingredients and store in refrigerator. Take 1-2 tablespoons
before bedtime then drink 8 oz of water. Make sure you drink water or
it will not work.
Here's some high fiber fruits: apples; avocado; berries; dried fruits
like figs, raisins, apricots, dates; guava; kiwi; pears. Vegetables:
beans; broccoli; brussel sprouts; cabbage; carrots; eggplant; greens
like collad, kale, turnip; potato with skin; canned pumpkin; green
peans, blacl-eyed peas; spinach; sweet potatoes. Happy eating.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to put a word out there for everyone...
#1. Not all of these websites are scams. I was just reading a post on
another website and this girls was talking about how she sold
insurance for years and years and even today if she see's one of her
old customers she is about to say hi and sleep well at night.

It is a HUGE BUMMER because these websites that are scamming people
are not helping the market at all and hurting the websites that are
selling good legit products.
I personally own a website that sales a colon cleanse product...
Please hear me out, I have nothing to gain by posting this and I wont
tell you my website just to make my point.

I HATE these scams, are website offers the free trail, BUT we MAKE
SURE that people know that they WILL be billed after the 14 day trail
( whitch starts AFTER they get the product). We will them 4 times
before they pay that this is only a TRAIL and you will be billed 86.00
and so on, then we make people check the box saying they have read the
terms of conditions. then after there order we call each person and
thank them for the order BUT mainly we tell them again that they will
be billed after the trail period for $86 and it is monthly. But are
product really does work, and really is healthy and cleanses the colon
so people want the product, and they KNOW WHAT THEY ARE GETTING INTO
BEFORE THEY GET INTO IT.
Like I said, man I just cant stand these website that scam people....
the hole hassle with the call centers and stuff like that, well first
of all, they really are not making any money doing it that way because
there are fines involved. We have REAL american call centers where
people can get refunds (FOR REAL) and can simply cancel there orders
and monthly subscriptions ( FOR REAL ) and we send them an email
confirming there cancellation and everything.

We really trying to do business honestly and in a way were if I ever
saw one of our customers in the store or on a vacation I would be able
to say hi and sleep well at night knowing that people are happy with a
great product, they understand what is going on, I am building a long
term business with happy customers and making money.
I wish all of these SCAM sites would have NEVER come up and would all
GO AWAY.

I have been thought in this business that I have to create a product
that I would feel great my mom going though.
I know you knowing this does not change the fact that you guys have
already been scammed these websites, but hopefully it will help in
some way, maybe just make you feel better knowing that there are real
websites out there selling great products and trying to do it as
honest as possible. It is really better for EVERYONE doing it honest.

In a few years, colon cleanses will be revealed as the common scam
that they are. The FTC is slowly but surely removing products that
induce people to buy them by making false assertions that they "cure"
mythical parasites ... or chemicals ... or mercury ... or bubonic
plague.

Every decade has its marketing geniuses that make extreme wealth by
selling false health cures or promoting a quack product. Back in the
early 90s, people believed that "smart pills" increased your IQ.
Common ingredient to all: Ephedra.
Next year, the consumer public will believe that you can reverse grey

Then there are the testimonies of people getting rid of worms in their

I can only assume that maddy has never done a proper cleanse. The
cleansing reactions from bad breath to nausea to sweats are all signs
of detoxification. Foul smelling stools are also proof enough and the
fact that they change consistency over time is further proof of their
effect. Parrasite removal is also part of a good cleanse, just take a
look at the ingredients in a vaccine and google the results to find
out what the medical and pharmaceutical industry does to your health.
Its your choice, get educated.

Amazing that I only just now found this hub! I've always been
skeptical of those products, but never actually thought about it the
way you put it. Brilliant! You buy their stuff, get fooled into
thinking that their product is helping rid your body of "toxins" but
it's the junk they're selling you that is the "evidence" that your
body is purging...

Thanks for sharing.

First of I want to thank you for taking the time to give your input on
this product. I have been researching for quite sometime on the idea
of cleansing the colon because I am a someone who suffers from
IBS,depression, acne, and sore muscles.
Now, being someone who is a salesperson and have been a telemarketer
in the past I know how marketing works and I know you get what you pay
for in this world. The basic ingredients found in this product can be
found in much less expensive products that can be picked up at the
local grocery story easily. The whole idea that I am someone who has
no medical insurance going to the doctor and asking for a colonoscopy
is totally out of the question. I would have bought this colonix stuff
on line if I found it to have some unique ingredients however, what I
have concluded from the posts to this topic I have decided I will do a
basic colon cleanse for under $10 and see what happens.

Thanks to all of you out there who care about your health enough to
take the time to inform others that want to get educated.

This book also said that the feces would take on this shape because
this waste material had been in the system so long it had taken on the
shape of the intestines. Forgive me for not knowing the name of this
book but this was 12 years ago..

I do not like your article because the overtone is so negative. You
are right there are a lot of scams out there but since your young. (
if that is your picture) You have no idea. Let me repeat that. You
have no idea. Please get in touch with me when you pass the big 40 and
your colon is distended from eating all that chemically coated,
nitrate loaded food. Ever read a Hulda Clark book. As I say in my
article is blogging helping society. You are reporting as if you know
something about this subject. But you dont. You probably have a
communications degree and your the latest religion. The blogger. I
hope you view this blog as negative because thats the way I feel about
your article. Colon cleansing saved my life. Oh credit to you I did
not use any of the products in your article. Kind regards Bearclaw
P.S. your as arrogant as any man I ever met!

One thing is for certain, if people were to eat a diet higher in fiber
and consume less meat and more vegetables no one would ever have to
buy colon cleanse or anything like it.

Well said, 'All Natural Cleanse'! I'm a 63-year old vegetarian - I'm
almost vegan, in fact - and since the age of 25 my diet has mainly
consisted of seeds, nuts, pulses, grains, fruit and vegetables.
Fortunately (or by design)

I've never experienced any colonic - or any other health issues.

Great Hub! I'm pretty sure all the "colon cleanse" products are just
contain psyllium husk, which is the same thing included in any fiber
supplement. It will make you go...that's for sure and people mistake
this as a "cleanse".

Colon Cleanes, you are right about the psyllium husk, it is the basis
of any colon cleanse. But only the basis. there is so much more going
on.

Eat plenty of vegetables - low cooked is best (see below) for most
people. I think eating raw is like chomping on wood. Possibly good for
exercising your jaws. Not much benifit otherwise.

Cabbage, califlower, broccoli stocks, carrots, turnips etc. Place in a
large pressure cooker, half water or you can add meat broth. Add some
lentils or brown rice for variety. Place on medium till steam shows
and on low/simmer for ten minutes. Let set for and hour or so. And the
result is absolutely flavorful and you will be a happy proud pooper
with the fiber additives. Sorry to bust colon clense bubbles here but
the recipe I described works and works well. What have you got to lose
by trying out fiberous, gently cooked vegetables?

That was an excellent hub here about the benefits of natural colon
cleansing. Everyone should be detoxing through detox cleanses since it
is so valuable and can bring remarkable health benefits. Few know how
great they really are and that colon detox cleansing was actually
practiced as far back as the Ancient Greeks.

I noticed a few comments touting the merits of OxyPowder further up
the page and I just wanted to throw in my two cents of dissent on that
topic and on the benefits of OTC cleansers in general. I bought a jar
of OxyPowder last year and went through 2 separate treatments
separated by about 6 months. I followed the instructions on the
website to the letter, drinking the vinegar water and eating tons of
leafy, raw vegetables during my treatment. I'm fairly certain that the
only thing OxyPowder did was irritate my bowels to the point where I
had uncontrollable diarrhea for the 7 days I was using it. I saw no
evidence of evacuation of "compacted fecal material" as advertised on
the product. At first, I convinced myself that the diarrhea I was
producing was this compacted material, however I decided to wait a
while and conduct an experiment using my first cleansing as a control.
I was pretty disappointed with the first treatment so on the second
go-around, about 6 months later, I decided to fast while taking the
OxyPowder to determine if I actually was evacuating compacted material
or just voiding the food I was eating while taking the pills. Sure
enough while fasting I produced little to no waste, which, in my mind
at least, indicates that the OxyPowder was doing little other than
hastening the evacuation of the food I had been eating the first
go-around.

I'm a pretty fiber conscious person to begin with so I suppose the
argument could be made that I had little compacted material to void in
the first place. However, out of curiosity I have tried colonics and
received better results than OTC cleansers, with some interesting
stuff being sucked back up into the colonic machine. I noticed an
increase in energy and a reduction in gas (I can be a pretty gassy
guy) that lasted about 4 months after the treatment.
If I were you I would avoid any oral OTC cleansers period and just go
get a colonic and do the cleansing with homemade mixes using the cheap
stuff above, I hear that once a year isn't extreme for colonics. I
understand they don't offer quite the level of detoxification as the
cleaners advertise, but they're cheaper, faster and, in my opinion,
the cleansing can be done with super cheap alternatives.

I have to agree with this author. Just eat a healthy diet and the
colon will cleanse itself. I have had bad results with colon
cleansing. I know there are folks, who say it saved their lives but
maybe it was other factors that did it or the belief...? I feel the
same way about liver cleansing. I know folks who have cleanse their
livers dozens of times by drinking lemon juice and olive oil--lots of
it and then they tell me all these stones come out of them--everytime
and duh, does the body, the liver have an unlimted number of stones in
it? I doubt it. Mixing a cup of olive oil and sour juice is probably
just making the liver freak out when it has to process that crap. One
woman I know did many liver cleanses and colon cleanses and now she
looks like a ghoul. The really bizarre thing is that she thinks she
looks healthy and great and YIKES........

Back up folks. Ask yourself, why am I constipated or why are my bowels
not working every day? If your cells are in a healthy environment your
body, and not just your bowel, will function as you want. Take a look
at the book by Bruce Lipton, The Biology of Belief.

Bowel problems are usually down to dehydration and the chinese known
that if an emotion is not resolved within 2 years, e.g grief then the
water element (in the chinese five elements) gets involved and your
body stays in dehydration mode even if you are drinking water! And the
organs represented by this are; yes you guessed, the colon, skin and
central nervous system. So, if you are dehydrated your body rations
water, with the brain getting the most. And, most of us know if the
bowel isn't working well it tends to come out in our skin, the chinese
water element again, giving us a visual indication that all is not
well inside. Incidently if you are dehydrated then mast cells appear
in the colon and allergies follow. (Mast cells make histamine and you
don't have allergies without the presence of histamine).
Holistically, if the body is dehydrated the charge at cellular level
will change and pH will follow, the body is more acidic, will body
temperature, blood sugar, oils utilisation etc and will have more
difficulty in cleansing.

I have read through all of the comments on here and I happen to
disagree with a lot of the comments. I still plan on trying DrNatura’s
program in April…I need to find out for myself. Here’s a little
background on me: I’m 32 years old, single, no kids, work in a mildly
stressful 8-5 Monday through Friday. I rarely eat red meat, love fresh
fruits and veggies, walk 2 miles/4 days a week and gave up soda 10
years ago so I drink well over 8 glasses of water a day. I maintain
the recommended healthy lifestyle with at least 7 hours of sleep at
night and am rarely sick.

I do everything right and yet I am always tired, ALWAYS fatigued. I
can’t take it anymore…I am sick and tired of always being tired. That
is my motivation to try the program. I am probably the most regular
person you’ve met when it comes to BM’s so that’s not why I’m doing
this. I want to feel crazy good, everyday. I want people to be jealous
of my enthusiasm and energy. I want to be that person!
I appreciate the comments from people who have had colonoscopies
claiming that our colons do not have buildup, however the cleanse
involves all of your organs, not just the colon. It takes toxins from
the liver, gall bladder, kidneys and much more. And maybe the fiber
supplements do cause the “ropes” however if I poo’d out just one WORM,
any money I’ve spent on the product would be money well spent, in my
opinion. If nothing else, research the ingredients in the product. All
of the herbs in it have medicinal purposes, proven and true. So the
worst case scenario, I’m just filling my body with things good for me.
Doesn’t seem quite so irrational…?

I don’t think every product works for everyone so I understand Colonix
may not work for everyone. Others seem to have an opinion about it
without even trying it. I am willing to make my body an experiment and
it may or may not work. But if it doesn’t, who cares? And if it does,
than woohoo! I also find it hard to believe that after spending HOURS
reading HUNDREDS of testimonials, would a company really spend that
much time and effort making up all of those stories?
Our bodies are amazing machines that work hard to eliminate all toxins
but if it really did do it all on its own, why is there still cancer
and other horrible diseases? You can eat everything right, do
everything right but you’re still going to be ingesting pesticides,
preservatives, parasites and man-made chemicals. You can’t put a price
on your health so I’m willing to shell out some bucks to try something
that could help clean out my body.

I’m just a normal person sitting in my living room. I don’t work for
DrNatura and I could really care less if you believe me or not. Lol
I’m going to try it and hopefully have some positive or negative
things to report. I’ll be back in 6 months with an honest and REAL
opinion on the product, good or bad, so stay tuned!

Marcy I agree with most of what you said, however I wholeheartedly
disagree with your statement, "So the worst case scenario, I’m just
filling my body with things good for me. . ." The worst case scenario
is that you're putting chemicals, (albeit from a "natural", herbal
source) whose impact is poorly or anecdotally understood with regards
to its medical impact, into your body. The list of herbs that are
thought to be completely benign, but are later discovered to have very
dangerous side effects to their use is a long list indeed. I would
argue that you should not default to using a supplement just because
its list of ingredients seems safe. The medical understanding of
chemical interactions between what we consume and our physiology is in
its infancy. It's getting better and better everyday, but don't fool
yourself into thinking that the manufacturers of these products know
what the complete result of their products is on our bodies.

Hi Marcy. Ok. I hear what you're saying, the fact that you are waking
up tired in the morning indicates that your body is in dehydrated mode
and not getting rid of the rubbish that builds up, even though you are
drinking the water. As I said earlier if an emotion isn't resolved,
this could be anger, worry, stress from work the water element in
chinese medicine joins in. Water = dehydration if the emotion is not
resolved. The more anxious, worried or stressed you get the more
dehydrated you become. Vicious circle. However, that's not the end of
the story, you not only need to look at your health but what you've
inherited from your parents, yes someone to blame but genetics do tend
to be passed on.
I'll stick my neck out on the line here, pick up a copy (I usually try
the library first) of Bruce Lipton's, The Biology of Belief, a copy of
Your Body's Many Cries for Water - Dr Batmangjlei (not sure of
spelling) and try to get hold of a copy of Cellular Awakening by
Barbara Wren. The last one is the interesting one as Barbara believes
that everything is connected, so you may be doing what all the books
say is right for you but it's not working. So why not? Because what
you're trying is general advice and not specific to you. (Yes, been
there, bought the t-shirt, good diet for the majority, poor, poor
results for me).

If you take a look at www.cnn.co.uk it explains in more detail.

As a toxicologist I can tell you that most of the comments are
erroneous. These folks are talking out of their heads and don't have a
clue. Colon cleansing does work. Read Steve's comment above. And yes,
Elvis had in excess of 25 pounds of sludge removed from his colon at
his autopsy- John Wayne had over 45 pounds removed from his colon. So
much for the belief that toxic fecal matter can't be stored in your
colon. The ropes excreted will naturally take on the shape of your
colon. This is normal and just a result of psyllium to take the shape
it's container.
Eat right, which means proteins less than 3 times a week. And stop
eating out of a can or box. Virtually nothing that is processed and
placed in a box or can is healthful. If you can't pronounce the name
of the ingredients, they usually aren't natural.

Humans were meant to be vegetarians; that is why our bodies don't
naturally produce vitamin B12 and we must get it from our foods.
Contrary to what is taught in medical schools, excreting 3 X per week
is constipation.

Medical schools also teach that Candidiasis is only found in patients
with AIDS, Cancer or terminal diseases, when in fact it is found in
over 85% of the population. Candidiasis causes mental fog, vision
problems, headaches, constipation, allergies, arthritis, Aspergers
syndrome and autism, some types of schizophrenia, heart disease and a
host of other ailments and diseases. Men are carriers without having
symptoms because they don't have vaginas. Women get the dreaded yeast
infections, take antibiotics and get terminal candidiasis. Get the
Cure! ThreeLac. And you'll notice there is no link here. I'm not
selling anything. Just informing you. Good day.
tabbycat says:

Couldn't agree more - I'm not against colon cleanse at all but if we
all ate healthy food like you say not out of a box or can, exercise
and drink clean water, we wouldn't get candidia or any of the other
bowel problems that arise. Bowel problems in China are on the increase
because they are adopting the Western lifestyle and diets. Says it
all! Have heard it said that disease always comes in via the backdoor
- yep that's the bowel.
So question for you Karen - how much psyllium husk would you have to
consume to get those ropes? It's got to be more than a teaspoon a day!

Can anyone shed some light on whether The Ultimate Colon Cleanse by
Organica Research is any good? I found a helpful website for yeast

If your colon was "dirty" you would very quickly die think about it.

These products are complete bullshit, usually the stuff you see come
