I have all of the above complaints after two years on 10 mg of Lipitor:
Severe constipation, bloating, leg cramps, feet cramping and breast
swelling and tenderness. ARGH! I believe in quality of life. If I have
an MI becs of clogged arteries so be it. I've tried Zetia as well with
the same results. It's not worth it to be in pain 24/7 to prevent
something that may or may not happen. Interestingly, my cholesterol
has not come down that much.

I have been taking lipitor for about 10 years now. 10mg a day... I
have chronic back pain from auto accidents. Upper back kills me most
of the time. I take vicodin for the pain, have been on a slew of
medicine for pain and the vicodin is the only relief i get after
trying a lot of other meds. I get leg cramps, jimmy legs, shooting arm
pains & severe back pain. Recently my doctor told me my numbers were
too high for cholesterol. He wanted to get them below 200, so he upped
my dose of lipitor to 20mg daily. I take Vicodin (For Pain) Allegra
(Allergies) Avalide (HBP) and Lipitor (for god knows what). Once he
switched my dose to the 20mg I have been dizzy, feeling very lethargic
and My back pain is a lot worse than before. I have no energy to even
work out anymore. I just called my doctor today and told his secretary
I am not taking Lipitor anymore. It is a real PITA to even get my
doctor on the phone and I am considering changing PCP's at this point.
I will check back in and let you all know what happens to me once I
get this crap out of my system. I am a pretty healthy individual, I
was in great shape back in the days before the accidents / pills took
me down. I am a 40 year old male. Thanks for listening.

I am a 61y.o. male and have been on Lipitor 10mg for over 10 years
now. I was surprised to read of all the side-effects as I seem to have
only experienced a drop in my cholesterol levels! The reason I
stumbled upon this site is because someone told me I should be taking
some CoQ10 if I'm taking Lipitor. My doctor has never mentioned this
and I'm trying to determine whether I really should be taking them -
any thoughts?

Oh, my gosh! I've been on Lipitor for about 3 years now, and had no
idea until this weekend, that it might be the cause of so many of my
problems!
After having worked so hard to lose 62 pounds, I was put on Lipitor 10
mg. I've gained back all of my weight, particularly around my abdomen.
I have also been treated for hypothyroidism for about 12 years.

Around three years ago, I began having spontaneous nosebleeds. My nose
would begin itching uncontrolably, sometimes for hours. Eventually, it
would stop itching, and perhaps an hour later, the nosebleed would
begin. The bleeding would be fairly heavy.
I found that if I took an allergy medication such as Claritin or
Zyrtec, the nosebleeds were eliminated, however if I missed a few
days, they would return. I've developed constant sinus congestion
which leads to frequent sinus and ear infections. My doctor tells me
I've probably suddenly developed an allergy to the dog I've had for 12
years.

Upon reading these articles, I realize that so many of my other
symptoms may also be related to Lipitor. They include;
1. Weight gain
2. Lethargy
3. Difficulty standing
3. Muscle weakness
4. Difficulty climbing stair
5. Depression
6. Heartburn and acid reflux
7. Lack of stamina (I can only walk for short distances without
suffering back and leg pain)
8. Hot flashes (Sometimes, I get so hot, I almost lose consciousness)
9. Short term memory loss (I also search for words and cannot find
them)
10. Seriously diminished libido
11. Aches and pain all over my body, (a feeling similar to being
bruised)
12, Blurry vision
Thank you so much for putting this website out here, I intend to
discontinue use of Lipitor beginning now. I hope to be myself again
very soon.

Had been taking Lipitor for approximately 3 1/2 yrs., recently stopped
due to blood work showing muscle burning. Had joint and muscle pain
for at least 2 1/2 yrs. which I did not associate with the Lipitor but
has stopped upon cessation of drug. Had EKG done last week for pre-op,
found out that I've had a heart attack. Going to cardiologist tomorrow
, will ask him if heart attack could be due to Lipitor, as heart is a
muscle.

I am a 48 yr.old male taking 20mg.of lipitor for over 10yrs. Total
Cholesterol was 305 when I was 35, now 175. TG 350 now 150. History of
high lipids in family but no history of cardiac problems. In fact my
sister has high numbers and has a master's degree in Pharmacology and
Medicinal Chemistry but refuses to take meds for lipid control.
Anyway, I've about had enough of the sides: Memory loss, daily
headaches, lower back pain, muscle twitching, chest pain, involuntary
leg shakes, dizziness. Worst problem, INSOMNIA. My doc medicated with
ambien but that just covers up one of the problems. This is not the
way to live. MY QUESTION TO ALL, SHOULD I QUIT COLD TURKEY OR IN
STAGES? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

I've been on 10mg Lipitor for 6 years with no problems. My cholesterol
went down quickly after being on them. I've been very pleased. High
cholesterol runs in my family and goes up no matter what is tried with
the diet. My mother had heart attacks when it was up to 300. I had to
give Lipitor a try. When my cholesterol started creeping up (and it
may have been due to all the cheeses I was eating in that month) my
doctor increased my dose to 20mg. I started waking up at 3 or 4
o'clock in the morning almost every day and started having a small
tremor in my thumb that I never had. Tremor wasn't all the time but I
was almost thinking it was the start of Parkinson disease. Another
thing was low libido ever since I've been on the drug. Until reading
all the messages, I never thought that it was due to the Lipitor.
Thinking twice about it now. I think because of the sleepless nights I
will lower my dose again. Oh, and also I used to be able to enjoy a
few alcoholic drinks, but I have had bad side effects since being on
the 20mg. Bad headaches and just not feeling well afterwards. This is
definitely a change. I'm going back to my 10mg and see how it goes.
Too bad both my sisters cannot take any statins as they have many side
effects with muscle pain. So, boils down to side effects of Insomnia,
tremors, headaches after alcohol.

These posts go back all the way to 2003. Everyone has complained about
side effects, most of which I have experienced myself. Please . . . if
someone . . . anyone has lasted all the way to 2010, and has improved
or maybe is side effect free, finally, please post that so the rest of
us can either be encouraged of resign ourselves to the fact that we're
not going to get better. Thanks.

genetic mutation in a gene, SLCO1B1, which encodes a transport protein
responsibe for moving statins into the liver to be
detoxified/meabolized occurs in 22% to 36% of the caucasian pop (less
in african am; more in asian). Thus it is NOT RARE. This mutation has
been assoicated with greatly INCREASED levels of statin in the blood
stream--the drug cannot be moved into the liver in normal function to
be broken down, thus it stays in the blood stream.building up greatly
increased, toxic levels, Studies have shown up to 400% higher levelsof
statin in the blood stream than with normal detoxification. Imagine
having toxic levels from taking a drug every day. This mutation has
been associated with severe myalgias and myopathies, prompting
discontinuance of the drug, I think for those not lucky enough to
develop the muscle involvement, neurodegeneration occurs

had genetic profiling done thru 23andme; there are many cos out there
who do genetic testing. if interested make certain they offer testing
for mutation in SLCO1B1 gene.

discovered mutation in a gene, SLCO1B1, which codes for a transport
protein that is responsible for moving statins into the liver to be
detoxified. Without this protein, statins build up in the blood stream
lipreading to toxic levels. thus Statin poisoning can result. Studies
have shown levels of statins at 400% HIGHER than normal. Imagine
having that level of statins every day one takes the drug. this
mutation IS NOT RARE. predicted to occur in 22% to 36% of Caucasian
pop, less in african am and more in asian.
thus 20 to 36 persons out of 100 have this mutation. and if taking a
statin have great likelyhood of suffering from greatly increased
plasma statin levels. one couldgoogle "SLCO1B1+statin"
obtained genetic profiling from 23andme; there are many other cos out
there offering the genetic testing, though one should check to make
certain this mutation is tested for.
Many individuals with this mutation develop severe myalgias adnd
myopathies prompting them to stop the drug. for those who do not get
the muscle involvement, I think neurodegeneration can occur after
therapy with this class of drugs that cannot be transported for
detoxification correctly.

My mother was taking Lipitor for several years. She began to have
falls and was hospitalized with no diagnosis. She is in a wheelchair
and has lost all ability to function independently. We went without
diagnosis until recently when it was determined that she is in
advanced stages of Parkinsons. There is no history of this disease in
her genes. Has anyone else developed Parkinsons following use of this
drug?

Almost 5 months post stopping 80mg daily Lipitor and I am still sick
everyday. Is it just me that's still ill months on? I am normally a
very positive person but this is really getting me down. I thought by
now my symptoms of nausea, muscle soreness and twitching and a host of
other symptoms of just generally feeling awful would have gone by now.
Reading other peoples posts they seem to be recovering in weeks or a
few months. I am still seeing Doctors who have documented it as
reaction to statins and nothing else is ringing any alarm bells but
surely I should be making significant progress? Some things have
improved as in the slight numbness in fingers and toes, hip burrsitis
and general energy but I still feel terrible everyday, it's
unrelenting!! Anyone else like this, I don't mean to whing but is
there an end to this. Have I got something else, has it triggered
something else, the uncertainty is making things worse. Any comments
would help, thanks.

I have been trying to figure out the cause for my constant ringing
tinnitus and postural dizziness. I have been to an ENT specialist in
Manhattan, a few internists, and a cardiologist. The prescriptions I
now take are: Lipitor 40 mg, Metoprolol Tartrate, Lisinopril, HCTZ and
Norvasc. My present focus is on the Metoprolol that was decreased from
200 mg. to 100 mg. (Norvasc was raised to compensate) in the attempt
to figure if this is causing the extremely annoying dizziness that is
with me the great majority of the day. As I am putting together my
hypertension meds schedule (moderate dosages) I FORGOT to take LIPITOR
for 2 consecutive nights. On the morning of the 3rd day (this
morning!!), I did not wake up with the usual postural dizziness that
had greatly affected my ability to take a shower, walk easily through
the supermarket and be calm around people. I have been able to drive a
car except for two times. I have been thinking about seeing an
orthopedist to rule out spinal cervical stenosis. I am hopeful that my
much improved feeling will last throughout the day. If it actually
does, I will be filling out a Pravastatin rx, tomorrow. I know so many
friends who have not had the significant side effects that I think are
being caused by Lipitor. By the way, I expect the tinnitus to remain.
A low dose rx helps and possibly some behavioral therapy may replace
the rx. Signed: Post grad adult

Just six months after beginning on a Lipitor regimen (80mg daily) I
had my first kidney stone (at age 52). The following year I had over
12 stones, 5 surgeries for blocked kidneys, stone removal, etc. After
comprehensive testing at the kidney stone research center at Mass
General in Boston my blood calcium levels were found to be over 400.
From the first stone through today I have had over 30 kidney stones,
am on a restricted calcium intake diet, taking a diuretic and the
stones keep coming. I have had over 30 stones (calcium oxylate stones)
in the last 7 years. I have just gotten out of the hospital after
another blocked kidney, bacterial infection and 4 surgical procedures.
My primary care and urologist, as well as myself, have contacted
Pfiser to determine how much calcium is contained in Lipitor (since I
am on a restricted calcium intake diet) and the company has refused to
tell us as they say the information is "proprietary." WebMD listed
kidney stones as a rare but serious side effect of Lipitor back in
1999 but Lipitor still refuses to acknowledge it. My physicians have
taken me off Lipitor and we are doing blood workups to see if the
blood calcium levels have dropped off. Kidney stones may not be a
common side effect but it certainly has been a serious one for me. I
really hope that dumping the Lipitor will get me out of this kidney
stone hell I have been in for nearly 8 years. MDM

Hello, I'm Judy live in Qld. Australia. I had a heart attack and then
triple bypass and was put on Lipitor for my cholesterol problem on
leaving hospital after my bypass. Not long after I started getting the
most excruciating cramps in my legs occurring when I went to sleep at
night. I'd jump out of bed and try to stand straight the cramps making
me cry with the pain. They'd last for five mins or more and leave an
ache after in the calves of my legs mostly. Apart from the cramps I
started getting memory problems like I couldn't remember peoples names
even those close to me and other memories not long past. This scared
me no end. My partner had a look on the internet at other peoples
experiences with Lipitor. I presented what we had found about it to my
GP but he didn't know about any side effects like those I was having.
I told him I'd thrown the Lipitor in the rubbish and would never take
it again. The trouble was my cholesterol started rising again so he
recommended I go on a drug called "Crestor" 10mg for cholesterol. He
was actually taking it himself and had done for 10yrs with no problem.
Well this seems to be the answer as I've had no side effects from it
and my cholesterol is down.

Well folks, reading about your experiences, your pain and your
analysis of the source .. Lipitor, has helped me more than any of you
could imagine. I'm 64, had a double bypass May 09 .. after that ...
they put me on the usual zillion meds ... dropping them off one at a
time as the weekly test results were tabulated. Lipitor stayed ... at
a whopping 80mg ! ... Yeah, my cholesterol dropped as fast as the
appraised value of my house.
My body has taken some very hard hits over the years so aches, pains,
soreness .. blown out back ..you name it. The first couple of months
after the double ... you're not super active ... therapy yes, but you
tend to be conservative. As time passed I realized that I feel so much
better two days after the operation and maybe month after that ...
then things (my body) started back slide ... I wasn't feeling
progressively better ... in fact, I was getting worst. The weird thing
was it seemed like all my previous "conditions" ... read old injury
pain ... was being magnified.
All that ... really fired up in late January when I started back on
the trade show circuit, flying , standing around for hours at a time
.. new bed every other day .. etc.
For the last 30 days .. it's been really intense. started at my hips
... up the lower back ... now, down both legs ( both sides of each
leg) ... and last week my knees ...wow, never, never had a problem
with my knees ... well, not both at the same time.
I know most of you figured this Lipitor thing out a lot faster than I
have .. but then again I've never been the sharpest knife in the
drawer and I'm still 16 years from getting my Doctors Certificate.
If you know someone on Lipitor that, like me has dealt with a lot of
body / joint pain .. let them know it's not just the old injury
cranking up ... it's the Lipitor.
I wish the best to all of you. I thank all of you for taking the time
to write, Y'all can take the credit for me having a hell of lot better
2010 than 2009.

people with heart disease and anyone who take aspirin ?taking 150mg is
safe?my father has serious side effect with lipitor and it made him
unable to walk he increased coq10 to 150mg but i am worried about it's

I stopped taking Lipitor 2 days ago. Already, the muscle cramping has

I have been on Lipitor for over 2 years. In that time I've gained 20
pounds and experienced severe calf and foot pains. My doctor thought
it was all in my head. Then he sent me to a rheumatologist, then to a
orthopedic surgeon who performed surgery on my feet for plantar
faciitis. I still have foot pain, and my calf muscles are cramped and
hard as rocks. After reading this site, I believe the problems are
related to Lipitor. I'm going to stop taking it and get a new doctor
who will listen to me. Can anyone tell me how to get off this stuff?
Is it OK to stop cold turkey? I've had it with Lipitor.

Female, late 30's. My Lipitor hell started in Sept. '09 when after an
ocular event in work my Doctor colleagues (I work in admin in a
hospital) thought I had a TIA. That was the diagnosis and a logical
one to go for as I had a small hole in my heart since birth and
slightly raised cholesterol. CT brain normal, blood pressure normal,
visual fields normal, ECG (EKG) normal, carotids normal. The very
first day of this event I was given 80mg Lipitor I felt very strange
straight away but I assumed as most of us do that it was me and not
the drug. So that was to be my lifetime medication, high dose Lipitor.
I became instantly forgetful, leaving house unlocked upon leaving,
couldn't do my job, forgot peoples names, repeated stories to family
etc. I felt awful, strange, anxious etc. Had MRI of brain: normal.
As it happens the hole in my heart closed a week later, this though
unusual in someone my age was confirmed on a cardiac test a TOE, heart
great!! Rest of body feeling very unwell. And so taking the advice I
was given I continued to take my Lipitor 80mg every day for chol of
6.4! Little did I know of the hell ahead of me. Although a healthy
weight and relatively fit upon hearing that my ticker was good I began
an exercise regime, cycling 20miles over a week. This seems to have
triggered all my severe symptoms. As soon as I put my muscles under
pressure I got muscle twitching 24/7 all over has lasted for months,
weakness all over, lactic acid feelings in muscles, felt like my head
was in a cloud, anxiety, diarrhea, frequent urination and the rest. I
thought I must have MS, Motor Neurone etc all of the worse diseases.
But things didn't add up, I went to my GP (MD) she did neuro tests all
fine, diagnosed possible virus. Things got worse, couldn't feel my
legs when walking, felt so weak but had all my power, felt like head
wrapped in cotton wool. Eyes felt pulled from the back, dry mouth,
insomnia, violent nightmares when I did sleep, buzzing up and down
body, couldn't feel my body when waking, freq. urination and diarrhea,
severe nausea, vomiting, thoughts of self harm, high blood pressure,
sore joints, severe pains in all muscles, severe pain down right arm,
right hip, no sense of smell, taste, no libido. Felt like all my
joints were loose and bones rocking on each other. Eventually six
weeks on Lipitor I decided to stop taking it, had appointment with
Neurologist to follow up on ?TIA. Normal Neuro exam. No TIA, diagnosed
with migraine with aura, great!
Despite stopping Lipitor my symptoms kept on coming as if the
withdrawal from the drug was almost worse. All symptoms continue to
this day though lessening each month. The pain in right hip worsened
and pain in general increased am having physio now. Had xrays: normal.
Early Feb the muscle twitching improved by 80% thankfully. But I am
still ill everyday and still struggle to get through each day with
pain, weakness etc. I am improving though more so in the last month
and have been extensively investigated. It has now been documented
that I had severe reaction to Lipitor and am to avoid these in
future..I don't have to be told that. I would rather die of heart
probs than live through this hell of statins. My life changed the day
I took them and I want my life back!!! Perhaps some people can take
statins but I predict there will be huge fallout from this in the
future.
This is a v long post but these severe stories can't be told briefly
this way we know others are experiencing the same nightmare, if
doctor's don't believe us and blood test etc come back normal then
these stories are all we have for solice. Here's hoping everyone
suffering continues to improve and eventually get back to normal. Good
luck everyone.

Wow I have been on Lipitor 10mg for about 5 years and I never stopped
to think my pain could be from the cholesterol medication? I have most
of the symptoms like everyone else but I guess I grew used to living
with the pain in my joints etc!
The pain in my claves and heals is so sever that I can hardly walk
some days. I too get regular headaches, pain in the jaw etc etc .....!
The only down side to stopping this medication is that it has
successfully reduced my cholesterol to under 5 however after reading
all this info, I am going to make an appointment with my doctor to
discuss alternatives – Thank you to everybody who has posted comments

44 year old male. I was on 10mg. Lipitor for several years, then went
off it when I went in for surgery. Months later went back on Lipitor
and it finally dawned on me... irritable (often nasty, really), muscle
aches, depressed, lethargy. But not in that time when I was off
Lipitor. I don't know why I didn't see it the first time;
inexperienced with medications, I guess. But I see it now and I'm done
with this stuff. Dosing up on Vitamin C and Vitamin D, more fruit and
veggies.

i have stopped taking lipitor for three days now and feel about 98
percent better. a little heaviness in my legs but other than that i
feel fine. went to the gym today and wheras i couldn't tolerate any
incline on the treadmill i was automatically at an incline of three. i
increased my leglifts by 40lbs and all exercises went smoothly and
quickly amazing!!!
My cardio said wel try something else, swell!!! my ortho thinks im a
madman!! my feet and legs hurt so bad i thought it was arthritis that
they were not treating correctly and went ballistic on them. this drug
is bad!!!! if you have any muscle pain symptoms stop taking this
drug!!!
See you need cholesterol for healthy joints and tendons and the
absence of this makes all your joints and tendons hurt.. also i
believe it worsens an pre existing arthritic conditions.... if you
have any thistises keep an eye on your pain level worsening of pain is
related to this drug.....GOOD LUCK

I have been taking Lipitor for about 6 years and now have really bad
leg pain. The worse it at night it wakes me up and I cannot lay there
any longer. I had leg pain a couple years ago and stopped taking
Lipitor but my doctor told me to get back on it. Now my leg pain is
worse than ever. I am stopping Lipitor again to see it my pain goes
away. It is now 4 in the morning and I am in screaming pain. I am
hoping to get some more sleep, I just took a pain pill.

I quit taking Lipitor years ago because I had strange symptoms and
aches and pains. Since my cholesterol was up again, I asked my doctor
to start me once again on a low dose because I was concerned about the
cholesterol.
After a month on 10mg I experienced a loss of the sense of taste and a
burning tongue, as if I had eaten hot soup. I also felt out of sorts,
tired, irritable, achy,
and had tendinitis in my right elbow so that it would wake me up at
night.
The pain would shoot up my arm like a stabbing sensation.
Now, approximately two weeks after stopping this drug I feel whole
again. HOWEVER I still have burning tongue and some loss of sensation
of taste.
I am hoping it goes away in time !!

ive been on a ten mg lipitor for about a year. i am 42 and have been
in decent health 2yrs ago it was revealed during a routine physical my
cholesterol and triglycerides were extremely high. I smoked ate
whatever i wanted to and my exercise wasn't what i would call regular.

I was extremely healthy all my life. After taking Lipitor for two
months I started having an inexplicable pain in my lower back muscles.
I didn't pay much attention but a month later the pain extended to my
legs making difficult for me to walk.
Also I have a stiff neck and the pain extends to my arms and back.
My doctor thinks I have Fibromyalgia and Arthritis but I think I am
suffering the side effects of Lipitor.
I stopped taking Lipitor a month ago and the pain is still preventing
me to move.

Is it ever going to go away?

moods. Had severe diarrhea yesterday.

I'm a 47 year old male, with no medical problems except high
cholesterol. I took lipitor for a few months. After the first month, I
noticed the general weakness in my legs and stiffening of my achilies
tendon. By the third month, these problems continued to worsen. My
achilies tendon would be so tight, I had to stretch my foot for a few
minutes before getting up in the morning. Then, after getting up, I'd
walk like Frankinstein for awhile. My achillies tendon was sore all
day, and my legs were weak. My legs felt like there wasn't any blood
or strenght in them; I felt like an old man who's leg were atrophing.
Anyway, I was playing tennis one night, and a friend noticed I wasn't
moving. My wife remarked that I was on Lipitor, and we think it's
hurting my legs. This friend knew of several people, including his
father, that had experience the exact same problem. I quit taking
Lipitor that very day. Since then, I've talked with others, and many
have had this same side affect.

Please note, two guys in my office are taking Lipitor with no problem,
so, it not universal. However, I believe it more common that the
medical establishment is reveling. From what I've briefly read,
Lipitor block the production cholesterol, but also blocks the
production of CoQ10, dolichols and other vital liver biochemicals
needed for healthy muscels and tendons.
I've been off Lipitor for a couple months, and my legs and achilies
tendon are good. Not a 100%, but good. I still experience moderate
stiffness in my achilies tendon the morning after playing tennis and
very stight stiffness otherwise. During the day, my achilies tendon
feels fairly normal, and my leg strengh feels normal.

I'm not a hypochondriac; however, I have no doubt, this drug is
dangerous and causes muscle and tendon stiffness and damage.

Whilst taking Lipitor...Life wasn't worth living.....it felt like
electric shocks zapping the muscles in my back and shoulder. I just
couldn't live with the pain in my muscles and joints. Doctor changed
me to Ezetrol to lower my cholesterol which only gave minimal pain in
my shoulder and joints and this time even my fingers. I tried CQ10 but
it never really stopped the pain. I read on the internet that TUMERIC
(spice) helps clense the liver, and is a powerful antioxidant and anti
inflammatory....AND IT WORKED for me....NOW I WONT MISS TAKING IT FOR
FEAR OF PAIN RETURNING.
I take 1 teaspoon morning and 1 teaspoon evening in small amount of
water to swallow {it tastes disgusting} Now I buy empty gel capsules
from chemist size "000" and fill them with Tumeric, so taking 2
capsules morning and 2 capsules evening is more bearable.....I would
recommend this to anyone, but first check with your chemist or
healthfood store that it is safe for you.

I have been taking Lipitor for about 2 months. I have gained weight
and found this site when I was searching for Lipitor and weight gain.
I am scared because I get on the scales each morning and I have gained
another half pound. I am going to quit taking it and see if the weight
gain stops. I weighed 133 when I started taking it. This morning when
I got on the scales I weighed 137.6. I am going to try and control my
cholesterol with diet!!

Pfizer and the rest of the pharmaceutical companies rule this country,
and it seems to me, control our doctors as well. I am a young woman,
athletic, a health-nut, my eating habits have always been excellent;
HOWEVER, my body naturally produces an "excess" amount of cholesterol.
My total cholesterol ranges from 215 to 250. It tends to fluctuate.
High cholesterol is the only “contributing factor” I have of the
multitude of abominable factors (the main one being STRESS). From what
I have read, it seems to me that the "acceptable" total number,
according to the AMA, has been gradually lowered over the years. In
the 1990s it was acceptable to have a total number no higher than 250.
Now, the number needs to be below 200. I smell a rat. This rat is the
drug companies aiming to get as many healthy, young people on these
statin drugs. It is actually quite sinister, in my opinion.

Before I became aware of this nonsense, I too, was prescribed Lipitor.
I took Lipitor for about 4 years - 20 mg. During my fourth year I
experienced muscle spasms, and on one occasion experienced thigh
numbness in a very small narrow area that lasted for 24 hours. I told
my doctor about this and he gave me a grocery list of the possible
causes as to why this was happening, of course, not one of the reasons
he rattled off was Lipitor. I took myself off of the drug and changed
doctors. I now go to a holistic/Integrative medicine specialist (you
know, the ones that are very knowledgeable about the natural approach,
but lack the support of health insurance companies. For some reason we
still live in era of 1692 as the health insurance companies are
fearful of these so-called “voodoo/witch” doctors; therefore, refuse
to carry them). My new doctor has been most helpful, and has
alleviated much stress for me by relaying the TRUE realities of
cholesterol that this society has built up into such a monster. I am
now working on lowering my cholesterol naturally by NOT changing my
eating habits as though they were poor to begin with, but adding foods
that combat cholesterol. My spasms have subsided, but I do get an
occasional twitch here and there. I am hoping it will go away
altogether over time.
I would suggest that you all look into alternative medicine.
Mainstream doctors are too busy, too entrenched in conventional
medicine that is dictated by drug companies who are getting filthy
rich at the expense of our health!

I've been taking Lipitor for over two years. I have been to 3 doctors
about the rash on the bottom of my feet and ankles. If they knew what
is was, they didn't tell me. They all gave my oral steroids and
ointment. It comes back as soon as I stop. By reading this site, it
has to be the Lipitor. Damn it!!! I have spent a fortune and been
scared and miserable just because idiot doctors never asked about my
medication. I literally feel sick to my stomach as I type this.

I am 53, 114 lbs, and in good health. I eat healthy but exercise
moderately, not regularly as I should. My cholesterol registered 280
with an increase in my LDLs and an decrease in my HDLs. I started
taking fish oil omega 3, eating much healthier, no saturated fats in
diet. The doctor prescribed 20 mg of Lipitor once at night. I just
started to take it on day 2 with no side effects however, I have
noticed insomnia even when I took melatonin 10mg it didn't work. I am
afraid to continue taking this drug after reading all the side
effects. I thought about taking red yeast rice but the FDA has removed
the lovastrin from the product so it is only good for maintaining
healthy levels. It doesn't lower cholesterol wo the lovastrin
included. I have also tried taking the new centrum that contains a
natural product from a plant that lowers cholesterol.
I was going to try the lipitor for a month, at 10 mg, and then take it
every other day once the cholesteral drops to a respectable level.

My question to those here who experience joint pain: do you take a Q10
enzyme supplement with the Lipitor? Merck has patented a Statin drug
that now includes Q10 the enzme that Lipitor depletes which is said to
contribute to joint pain. Also drink plenty of water to filter your
liver and kidneys.

After 7 years plus on Lipitor starting at 10mg and 5 years ago going
up to 20mg I think I have experienced it all. I have literally
experienced I feel every side effect possible but was oblivious
because my doctor didn't advise me that it was the Lipitor when I
complained. Because of my age he always put my complaints down to
peri-menopause. Every bone in my body ached every joint every muscle,
but because my job was very physical I thought it was my work. I would
take two weeks holiday but my body never seemed to recover. I gained
weight and contracted an ugly dimpled midriff and stomach which I had
never had but this was always attributed to peri-menopause. My hair
started to fall out 2 years ago and my long thick blonde tresses
became like a rats tail. The hair fall was put down to iron deficiency
but did not stop for nearly 8 months even though I took double the
recommended daily dose with vitamin C for absorption. The worst part
was the loss of speech and not being able to finish a sentence due to
not being able to remember a word. Next was the aggressiveness and the
depression that nearly tore apart my marriage. That too although it
was supposed to be handled by hormonal drugs I believe was partly to
blame due to the Lipitor. Then the insomnia over the last year has
been worst. I think after 7 years I had finally completely poisoned my
system and was awake for a week at a time....no drugs would help. Then
the week before Christmas I woke up screaming as my arm had become
numb and tingly like I had slept on it funny but the joint pain was
out of control. Boxing Day 09 I put the drugs in the cupboard and
vowed never to take them again. It has only been 7 days and I have
slept 12 to 14 hours a night (thank goodness I am on holidays) my
stomach and midriff have almost disappeared I am clearer in the head
than I have been in a long time, my shoulders still ache a little but
I am not running to make an appointment with my osteopath or remedial
masseues, the dry mouth is dissapating and I walked 2 hours on the
beach yesterday at high tide on soft sand which I have not been able
to do for 5 years without complaining of sore muscles/joints etc. This
stuff is poison....I will never touch it again and wonder how much of
my quality of life it has stolen from me over the years as I felt so
bad I could not or didn't feel I could participate in life. I am mid
40's so plan to change everything, starting with going to a good
Natropath. I eat a fantastic balanced diet but if I have to give up
dairy and red meat so be it. I want my life back and a chance to make
it up to a husband who stuck by and watched his wife deteriorate over
7 years and relied on my doctors advice. High CHL won't kill you and
in my case it was or is hereditory due to Mediterranean decent but all
my family live to their mid 90's. I went Cold Turkey and wished I had
done it years ago.......Don't touch this poison.

I have been taking Lipitor for a couple of years with no drastic side
effects but last spring i suddenly developed a blister like rash on
the soles of my feet and on the inside arch. I presumed it was from
the heat as I come from a warm climate.my doctor put it down to a
bacterial infection. i medicated with creams all summer . there were
times that it got better but never cleared completely. looking forward
to the cold winter in the hope that it would go away. no such luck. i
began to suspect that maybe it could be an allergic reaction to
medication. now reading about all these side effects i wonder if
Lipitor is causing it. Has anyone else had this problem. its driving
me crazy

I've been taking Lipitor for about five years. Several months ago I
started getting an ache in my left leg which progressively got worse
during the night so that by morning I was tossing and turning, trying
to get in a comfortable position. Yesterday I woke up with hip pain on
the left side so bad I could hardly get out of bed. Last night I got
very little sleep on account of the pain, which was dull, deep and
throbbing, like a tooth-ache. Starting today I'm going off the Lipitor
just to see what happens. If there's improvement, I'm going to ask my
doctor to put me on another statin, because it's important to keep the
cholesterol down.

I am a 54 year old woman with a family history of heart disease and
premature death. Even though my cholesterol levels fall within the
normal range, because of my family history I was prescribed a low dose
of lipitor just over two weeks ago. After only 1 week I began
experiencing tingling all over my body, from tips of toes to my scalp.
I also felt nauseous, irritable and tired. I persisted for another
week on lipitor thinking I may need to just ride it out. However
tingling has worsened so I stopped the medication two days ago after
being on it for just over two weeks. I still have the tingling,
however it has only been two days since I stopped the medication so am
hoping there is no long term damage.

I was taking 10mg of Lipitor for years, with no noticeable side
effects. However, last April, I had 2 stents put in and the doctor
increased the Lipitor to 40mg. I immediately started suffering from
extreme constipation, and it seems to get worse all the time. I also
started taking Plavix, but I have not seen any information on Plavix
and constipation. (64 year old male)

After just a couple months on 40 mg of Lipitor, I experienced a
serious allergic side effect with very swollen lips, area around the
mouth, and facial cheek area with skin peeling. Also, pain and much
weakness in my right shoulder. Had to use the left hand to help the
right hand lift anything. Problems were starting with other joints
when I stopped taking the Lipitor on my own. Within three days the
face was healed and the problem did not return. Shoulder also is much
better. Will NEVER take that med again!
