Share Health information is a generic term that refers to patients' medical records, which are files that keep medical professionals up-to-date on any recent or previous illnesses, preexisting conditions and family history. Individuals who work in this field often find employment opportunities in hospitals, clinics, health-care centers and nursing homes.
Health Information Technicians ------------------------------ 1. Health information technicians are responsible for keeping track of a patient's chart and medical history. Technicians ensure that these files are ready for doctors and physicians before they meet with patients, and check that any required documents are present and signed. In large hospitals and facilities, technicians work directly under a medical records administrator and make sure that all medical information is accessible at all times.
Medical Record Administrator ---------------------------- 2. Individuals who work as medical record administrators are in charge of all medical records and health information in a hospital or clinic. Administrators ensure that a patient's medical history is on record and that the information is accurate. Statistics are gathered from these files that can help scientists and doctors research and study certain conditions. Medical record administrators are also responsible for contacting insurance companies and passing on any relevant information that they need to know about a patient's condition.
Coding Specialist ----------------- 3. Coding specialists are responsible for putting medical information into code, which is designed to make medical information more accessible. Using codes simplifies the cross-indexing process for health information technicians. A cross-index information system is beneficial, because information regarding a particular treatment can then be found under the name of a patient, a disease or the doctor involved in the case.
Office Manager -------------- 4. Office managers have a number of responsibilities and duties, but one of their primary tasks is to transcribe medical information from recorders onto computers. Office managers provide support to the medical staff by answering phones and scheduling patients, while organizing office activities as well. Because of the rapid changes and developments involved in the medical industry, office managers make sure the office is prepared for the integration of any enhanced medical equipment and train any staff on practices and procedures.
Clinical Managers ----------------- 5. Clinical managers carry out the training and hiring of any new administrative staff members in the medical information department. Clinical managers also make sure that everyone in the department is following the rules and regulations set forth by the hospital or clinic. Other responsibilities include managing the cleanliness of the office, tracking inventory and billing, maintaining expensive equipment and devices and providing education material to patients. Some clinical managers may oversee the marketing and advertising of the clinic or health center.
