World Vision Closing date: 22 Nov 2009 -- (CLOSED) Location: Canada - Mississauga World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. Here is an opportunity to realize your potential to change the world. The Nutrition & Health Program Manager will advise and assist World Vision to design and facilitate implementation, monitor and evaluate nutrition and health programs, in both emergency and development contexts. The position is based at World Vision Canada (WVC) but requires overseas travel. The Nutrition & Health Program Manager will report to the Nutrition & Health Team Leader.
The Nutrition & Health Program Manager will work collaboratively internally with the Nutrition & Health Team, the Regional Programs department, the Humanitarian Emergency Affairs Team (HEA), and other relevant colleagues at World Vision Canada (WVC), as well as with World Vision International (WVI) colleagues including the Centre of Expertise for Nutrition (CoE) and the Global Health Centre and other external agencies (e.g. donors, other NGOs, universities etc.) Primary Responsibilities
Enhance Quality of Nutrition & Health Programming Contribute to development of nutrition and health strategy. Develop institutional nutrition capacity building strategy driven by field needs, focused on outcomes. Maintain current knowledge of research findings, standards and guidelines for nutrition and health programming, and provide relevant updates and tools to field partners. Provide technical support to the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of nutrition and health programs both emergency and development. Coordinate evaluation of nutrition programming at various levels and coordinate operational research in nutrition. Liaise with WV entities working in the nutrition and health sector Coordinate and maintain nutrition and health programs and reports, using program experience & results to inform/revise strategy and programming.
Management of Nutrition and Health Programs Provide technical and management support to nutrition and health programs in both emergency and development contexts. This support includes guidance on the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs, through ongoing correspondence with field partners, review of proposals and reports, and regular field visits. Liaise with WVC finance staff for budget preparation and monitoring. Liaise with marketing department and program donors, providing program updates and advocating for field partners as needed.
Development of New Initiatives and Partnerships for Resource Acquisition and Advocacy Investigate and pursue opportunities to increase the extent and quality of WVC's nutrition and health programming, in collaboration with field partners and WVC colleagues. Represent WV's work in nutrition and health to external agencies through correspondence, dissemination of assessment findings and lessons learned, and participation in professional conferences and networks. Draft concept papers and proposals in participatory process with field partners for presentation to donors
Requirements The successful candidate should possess a Master's degree in nutrition or a related health discipline with three years of related experience in a developing country environment or Bachelors in nutrition and five years experience.
Experience in Community-based nutrition and health programming both in emergency as well as development contexts is key to this position. Strong written and oral communication skills in both English and French are highly desirable for this position.
Analytical skills for synthesis of materials, evaluations, and preparation of presentations/articles for publication as well as experience in a PC environment and the MS Office suite of software. Database management or familiarity with statistical software is an asset.
