Business/Medical Office Technology
Program Description
Our Business/Medical Office Technology Department offers training in a
broad category of programs as well as individual courses.  Students
have the flexibility to tailor their own set of courses to create the
total training program of their choice.  These courses include
Exploring Medical Careers, Business Software, Medical Office
Technology, Business Technology,and Microsoft Excel.

Customized Business Classes for You
The Tech Center Adult Education Program Director, Mr. Keith Davis, can
customize a course of Business Technology, Accounting or Computer
Technology for you.  You can take some of all of these classes or have
a major emphasis in one of the above listed areas.

Areas of Training
Exploring Medical Careers--Knowing that the ideal time to begin
preparing for a health care career is in high school, the Exploring
Medical Careers class is designed to assist students in gaining
knowledge about health related careers through lecture, related
hands-on skills and shadowing experiences.  Students will have the
opportunity to learn anatomy, medical terminology and health skills.
 Students will be able to identify body organs and define their
purpose, use proper medical terms and the health care industry will
gain a more qualified, motivated and confident health care
professional.  This course is designed to introduce students to many
different aspects of planning, pursuing, and ultimately experiencing a
career in medicine.  This goal will be met through many activities,
including tours of medical facilities, journal & essay writing, public
speakers from various medical specialities speaking about their
careers, teaching students some fundamentals of the art of medicine,
and providing students with the opportunity to ask questions.
 Students will be able to use medical terminology to diagram the body
system, distinguish various types of work employees do in the allied
health industry, and perform the basic requirements of cardiopulmonary
resuscitation (CPR).
Medical Office Technology--This class is an excellent opportunity for
students interested in careers in the allied health industry.
 Students are introduced to a wide variety of medical professions
through guest speakers and field trips.  Students will learn about the
various body systems, medical terminology, medical procedures, and
medical abbreviations.  Medical insurance coding will also be
introduced to students in this course.

Business Software--This course offers the opportunity to work with the
popular software Microsoft Office 2007.  Emphasis will be on Microsoft
Office Professional which includes Windows, Word, Excel (spreadsheet),
Access (database), PowerPoint (presentations), and Microsoft
Publisher.

Business Technology-Students will review various word processing
formats and document processing, learn the electronic information
processing cycle, improve written and oral communications skills, and
analyze business and office careers.  Microsoft 2007 programs will be
utilized in this class including Word (word processing), Excel
(spreadsheets), Access (database), and PowerPoint (presentations).
 Students have the opportunity to complete a business simulation
project utilizing time management, problem solving, and teamwork.
 Students are also exposed to transcriptions on voice recognition
software programs.
Microsoft Excel--This course convers the basics of Microsoft Excel
2007. Students will learn how to enter and edit information in a
worksheet; manage and navigate worksheets and workbooks; perform
calculations and manipulate worksheet data; format the worksheet
contents; prepare, set up, and print information.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a publication of the United
States Department  of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics that includes
information about the nature of work, working conditions, training and
education, earnings, and job outlook for hundreds of different
occupations. The Handbook is released biennially with its companion
publication the Career Guide to Industries.  The current 2008-2009
edition was released in December 2007 and includes employment
projections for the period 2006-2016.

Because the Occupational Outlook Handbook is a U.S. government
publication it is not under copyright and is reproduced in various
forms by other publishers, with additional information or features.
