March Is Colon Cancer Screening Month
-------------------------------------
photo of smiling, happy family If You're Over 50, Talk to Your
Doctor About Getting Screened. It Could Save Your Life.

In Massachusetts, colon cancer is the third leading cause of
cancer death. But colon cancer often can be prevented — screening
can find polyps before they become cancer and can find cancer
early, when treatment can be very effective.
We want you to know:

• Screening for colon cancer is the key to prevention and wellness
• Adults 50 or older should be screened
• Screening can find polyps and cancer before symptoms arise
• Most health insurance plans cover colon cancer screening,
including Medicare and Medicaid
Check out our On the Street video where residents share their
stories about colon cancer testing and how it helped them. More
information can be found at The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention and at the MDPH's Comprehensive Cancer Prevention and
Control Program.

Ask your doctor which screening test is right for you.

Help For Haiti

Our thoughts are with the people of Haiti who have been impacted
by the earthquake. According to the American Red Cross, there are
three ways that people can help the victims of this disaster:

• Donate
• Volunteer Your Time
• Give Blood
For more information please visit the American Red Cross website
at www.redcross.org or contact you local Red Cross chapter.
