College of Medicine Welcome to Health Information Management & Systems (HIMS) at The Ohio State University ==============================================
A career in Health Information Management (HIM) focuses on the business aspects of healthcare and health-related services. The field of HIM encompasses elements of health services management while concentrating on the management and safeguarding of health information. Healthcare information is used to plan, finance and evaluate healthcare services and it is vital for patient care and safety, research and education. Graduates of the program acquire a business and information systems background as well as a strong healthcare background to more effectively communicate with medical professionals and consumers of healthcare. Opportunity to combine interests in health sciences, business administration and information technology into one career that enables graduates to find employment in a variety of settings. Small classes that support individual self-directed learning opportunities, critical thinking and analytical problem solving.
Opportunity to intern in a professional environment such as a healthcare system, consulting firm, business or other health related company. Excellent foundation that supports future studies at the graduate level in areas such as health services administration, MBA, law, public health, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, physician assistant, medicine and/or information systems.
