Health Information Technology Incentive ProgramsHealth Information TechnologyLast Updated: 3/15/2010
The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 (ARRA) provides a combination of Medicare and Medicaid incentives to providers, both hospitals and eligible professionals, for the adoption and meaningful use of electronic health records. General acute-care, critical access, childrens, and cancer hospitals can be eligible for one or both programs depending on the type of hospital. Eligible professionals, who include physicians, dentists, podiatrists, nurse practitioners, and other professionals who are not hospital-based, can participate in either the Medicare or Medicaid program, but not both.
