Information Technology
======================

About the Program
-----------------
The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with its three
options (Applications Development, Business/Systems Analysis and
Health Informatics) offers a challenging, state-of-the-art education
for those interested in learning the dynamic and growing field of
information technology. The field is interdisciplinary, with
applications to all aspects of the economy. Graduating students are
prepared to bridge the technology and management disciplines in their
organizations. Core business disciplines taught include analytical
skills and problem solving; business organization and management;
project management; leadership, teams, and communications. In addition
to the core business disciplines students choose an information
technology focus in one of three options: applications development,
business/systems analysis or health informatics. Each option is
designed to produce graduates with the competencies necessary to
succeed in the workplace or pursue further graduate level education.

Aimed at working adults who already have some general education
college credit, the OIT IT degree completion program is designed to
fit the lifestyle of working adults and to provide the maximum
opportunity for employment and promotion. Courses are offered during
convenient evening and weekend times. OIT's hands-on approach to
education assures that you will have the right skills to meet the
demanding marketplace. OIT graduates in Information Technologies find
jobs in a variety of roles, including job titles like Program Analyst,
Network Technician, Database Administrator, Consultant, System
Designers, Researchers and Application Developer. In addition to
computer skills, the program emphasizes team building, critical
thinking, creativity and organization.
OIT's belief in practical, hands-on education means our graduates have
the best technology placement track record of any of the state
schools. OIT graduates find great jobs with great Oregon companies.
OIT's business and industry connections have contributed to the design
of many aspects of the IT program, which is a plus for you. An IT
degree from OIT means something to the people you want to work for.

technical careers as Business/Systems Analyst, Database
Administrators, Network Administrators. Along with advanced problem
solving competencies the student will develop good communication
skills and the technical knowledge necessary for success in the
workplace or further graduate education. Course in business
organization and management; project management; information systems,

option will migrate to management roles in the technology sector.

analysis and design, project management, personal computers, operating
systems, applications, networks, web page design and development, and
databases.
Health Informatics Option
-------------------------

The US health care system is in the midst of a technology
transformation, moving from paper-based records to integrated
electronic health information systems. Technology transformation,
specifically electronic health records, data warehouses and integrated
health information systems, is changing the face of health care
organizations and the delivery of care. One of the key factors in
assuring a successful transformation is meeting the needs for highly
qualified health informatics professionals and specialists.
The new roles for health informatics professionals are the result of
the convergence of information management and information
technologies. Health informatics professionals work in operational and
management positions throughout the health care industry in such
locales as hospitals, clinics, managed care organizations, software
vendors and government agencies. Health informatics professionals are
being called upon to design and use emerging information technologies
with the goal of helping providers and patients access and utilize key
information in both clinical and business management. Health
Informatics provides support in areas such as clinical decision
making, research, financial and revenue cycle management, and personal
health management.
