Located just north of Washington, D.C., Montgomery College—Rockville offers over 130 associate degree and certificate programs to help students transfer to four-year colleges and universities, and prepare them for entry into the workforce. In addition, Montgomery College—Rockville offers an honors program, continuing education, and distance learning programs. Students enrolled in the honors program may choose among three specific programs which offer honors courses, tutorials, seminars, independent study, and internships. The honors program is designed for high-ability students interested in a challenging and rewarding academic experience.
The continuing education program at Montgomery College—Rockville provides noncredit training as well as off-campus credit in the following areas of study: business, information technology and safety; health sciences, information technology; art and design, as well as technical education; customized training; and, community education. Distance learning at Montgomery College—Rockville is designed for students seeking a flexible learning environment. Most courses are delivered over the Web using a special system called WebCT. Through this course management system, students receive all course requirements and instructions, participate in discussions, take exams and quizzes, and turn in all completed assignments.
Montgomery College Admissions ----------------------------- Montgomery College—Rockville is open to all students with a high school diploma or equivalent, wanting to further their education.
To be admitted to the college, prospective students must: 1. Fill out and submit an admissions application, along with a $25 non-refundable application fee (students may apply online at the school’s website)
2. Apply for financial aid 3. Take assessment tests (if necessary)
4. Meet with an academic advisor Students can apply to Montgomery College—Rockville online, by mail, or in person. International students should contact the admissions office for additional instructions and other applications.
Montgomery College Financial Aid -------------------------------- Montgomery College—Rockville provides financial assistance to qualifying students through the following options: grants, scholarships, loans, and student employment. The school’s website provides detailed descriptions of all financial aid available. All qualifying students must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the semester deadlines as follows: Fall semester—May 1; Spring semester—November 1.
Montgomery College Students --------------------------- Montgomery College—Rockville is a commuter campus which serves a wide range of students, including high school graduates, transfer students, international students, and working professionals. There are two additional campuses besides Rockville which include Germantown, and Tacoma Park/Silver Spring.
There are many opportunities for students to be involved in campus life at Montgomery College—Rockville including a variety of clubs, student senate, intramural sports, a leadership program, intercollegiate sports teams, and a student run newspaper, an educational campus cable television channel, and an Internet radio station. The college also offers services to the students including disability support, academic advising, student counseling, and an online bookstore.
Montgomery College Athletics ---------------------------- Montgomery College—Rockville supports several intercollegiate teams including men’s baseball, lacrosse, and golf; men’s and women’s basketball, cross-country, tennis, track, and soccer; and women’s volleyball, softball, and cheerleading.
The Rockville Knights compete in two conferences—the Maryland Junior College Association, known as JUCO, and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Region XX Conference. This year, the Rockville Knights’ cheerleading squad took the Division Grand Championship title at the UMBC Championships for the first time in history. In addition, the squad also took first place in their division at the University of Maryland Championship.
