FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Oct. 20, 2009 BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-- A diverse panel of Indiana University professors will speak on the issue of health care reform Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Whittenberger Auditorium at the Indiana Memorial Union. This free, open-to-the-public event is co-sponsored by the Indiana Memorial Union Board and the Teachable Moments Committee of the Commission on Multicultural Understanding.
Nicole Quon Nicole Quon, an assistant professor at the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs, will be among panelists at an open-to-the-public health care discussion at Indiana University Oct. 26.
"Here's a chance to hear the issue of health care reform like you have not heard it before, without the bias of the media or political organizations," said Caitlin Van Kooten, director of Union Board lectures. As the national debate on health care reform continues in Congress, Union Board's health panel will provide an unbiased view of our current health care system and discuss the proposed health care reforms. This panel will provide students and Bloomington community members with an opportunity to educate themselves on this topic in an open forum.
The University Coalitions for Global Health, IU College Democrats and IU College Republicans will express their views and answer questions in the lobby of the auditorium after the panel. The panel includes Ed Marshall, IU's vice president for Diversity, Equity, & Multicultural Affairs and IU professors John Hill, professor of accounting and the Arthur M. Weimer chair of Business Administration at the Kelley School of Business; Milton Fisk, professor emeritus of philosophy; Nicole C. Quon, SPEA assistant professor; Martin Spechler, professor of economics; and Dr. Robert Stone, assistant clinical professor of Emergency Medicine at the IU School of Medicine and founder of the group Hoosiers for a Commonsense Health Plan. Each panelist will speak for five to seven minutes about health care reform and its possible effects from the view point of their respective fields, followed by a moderated Q-and-A session.
