WHIMA is committed to lifelong learning. A health information
management specialist's continuing professional development is
critical to keeping up with the changes in practice and with the
changes in regulations and reimbursement.

To help you stay current, WHIMA in collaboration with the Rural
Wisconsin Health Cooperative(RWHC), offers Mediasite seminars
(webinars) for continuing education (CE) activities that foster
learning in health information practice.

Coding"
OB/GYN has its own separate rules and exceptions--so join us for this
educational session that reviews OB/NB ICD coding applications as well
as reviews and shares GYN coding issues. Even though many of these
encounters aren't Medicare, most insurers seem to focus on LOS and
acuity of the condition(s). Therefore, the applicable codes seem to be
under constant scrutiny. We will review new pertinent ICD and CPT
codes, the established official coding guidelines for labor &
delivery, as well as review pelvic disorders and procedures. This
session will focus mainly on facility coding issues, but will touch on
billing issues for certified nurse midwives, maternity counselors, as

Recording Feb 18, 2010 "Cardiac Catherization Coding" Webinar
The presenter will review the guidelines for both diagnostic and
interventional procedures done concurrently and as stand-alone
procedures. Challenges of coding peripheral vascular procedures done
concurrently with cardiac catheterizations will also be covered.
Fluoroscopic images of actual procedures will be compared with common
textbook diagrams in order to help the coder participant better
understand how these procedures are actually performed.(For member

Recording Jan 21, 2010 "Oncology Coding & Cancer Reporting" Webinar
The co-presenters will review the specific regulations for assigning
neoplasm ICD-9 as well ICD-O-3 codes. Goethel will focus on the
Official Coding Guidelines for better understanding or primary versus
secondary ICD-9 code assignments. Eberle will discuss the entities to
which cancer information is reported, for example, the CDC and the
National Cancer Data Base and Case finding which is critical to
complete cancer reporting. The presenters will offer their expertise
in both coding systems and discuss cross-over from one system to the

This webinar discusses the Wisconsin Pressure Ulcer Coalition mission

MS DRGs were implemented in fiscal year 2008 which split payment into
three tiers based on severity. In addition, payment penalties were
