Library Media Programs
======================
Welcome
-------

The Portland State University Library Media Programs focus on the
preparation of school library media specialists for professional
positions in K-12 library media centers and provide professional
development for public librarians.
The Library Media Endorsement Program prepares licensed educators to
become school-based library media specialists by adding a 29-credit
endorsement to their current licenses. This program is offered
partially online. Accommodations can be made for distance students.

The Library Media Master's Program consists of the 29-credit
endorsement program and an additional 16 credits in advanced
coursework in library media. Students explore the library media center
as a teaching agency, take a more in-depth look at reference
resources, meet librarians in other settings, and evaluate media
centers.
The Initial K-12 Teaching License in Library Media is a licensure
program which includes both library media and education coursework.
The program culminates in a part- and full-time student teaching
experience in a library media center. The license enables students to
be a K-12 library media specialist but not a classroom teacher.

The Graduate Certificate in Children's and Young Adult Literature is a
comprehensive 16-credit training for teachers, library media
specialists, and public librarians who want to broaden their
understanding of contemporary literature for children and young adults
at the early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Participants gain knowledge of a range of children's authors,
illustrators and genres, demonstrate the ability to select and
evaluate quality literature for children and youth, and build skills
for the integration of literature into K-12 school curricula and
programs.
