I’ve put together a resource that provides the content of Vitamin K in
foods for those of you either looking to avoid sources of vitamin k
(because you’re on blood thinners), or those that need to eat more
foods rich in vitamin k because of a deficiency, or for other reasons.
If you are looking to limit your daily of intake of Vitamin K rich
foods, then you need to avoid various green and leafy vegetables.
Specifically, here is a list of foods rich in vitamin k:

List Of Foods High In Vitamin K:
================================
Parsley, raw (1 cup) - 1640mcg

Amaranth leaves, raw (1 cup) - 1140mcg
Kale, cooked, boiled, drained, without salt (1 cup, chopped) -
 817mcg

Dandelion greens, raw (1 cup, chopped) - 778mcg
Collards, frozen, chopped, cooked, boiled, drained, without salt
 (1 cup, chopped) - 623mcg

Cress, garden, raw (1 cup) - 542mcg
Turnip greens, frozen, cooked, boiled, drained, without salt (1
 cup) - 519mcg

Mustard greens, raw (1 cup, chopped) - 497mcg
Lambs quarters, cooked, boiled, drained, with salt (1 cup,
 chopped) - 494mcg

Beet greens, cooked, boiled, drained, without salt (1 cup) -
 484mcg
Spinach, raw (1 cup) - 483mcg

People that are on blood thinning or anticoagulant drugs after a
stroke or surgery should avoid eating high K foods. If you are looking
to limit your daily of intake of Vitamin K rich foods, then you need
to avoid this list of foods high in vitamin K.

Are there any foods that are anti-vitamin K?
--------------------------------------------

October 18th, 2008
Hello friends,

A year ago I had an emergency surgery for a condition known as "aortic
dissection". It was a real surprise to me because I had no idea my
heart had any sort of problem to begin with…
Anyways, I have an artificial heart valve and in order to keep my
blood from clotting on it, I have to take a medicine called Coumaden
(it makes the blood clot less easily). I'm told by my Dr's that
Vitamin K has some impact on the blood (it basically undoes the effect
of the Coumaden) Does anyone know of a food(s) that occurs naturally
which has the same effect as Coumaden? I'm not looking for a
substitute from my daily coumaden pills, but I'd just like to know
something I can eat to help offset the vitamin k foods I eat (eg.
lettuce I eat when I visit Subway for lunch)

Thanks!!
Hello.

I don't think you will be able to get away from Comidin /Warfarin.
I've been taking it for 4 years.

The trick is to eat a consistent diet and the dose will adjust to what
is necessary to keep your PT where it needs to be.
Don't play games with " natural" foods / drugs. The consequences are
stroke or heart attack.

If you want to discuss further please e-mail. Please.

What are some foods high in vitamin K?
--------------------------------------
October 4th, 2008

Is there a web site that will give me a list of foods high in vitamin
K? I will be preparing food for a person who is not to have these
foods.
Vitamin K is found in a lot of green leafy vegetables such as spinach,
lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, peas, kale, brussel sprouts, soybeans,
cauliflower, green beans.
Its also found in strrawberries, potatoes, milk , and carrot and
certain oils like Olive( but in small dosage)
Best way to get Vitamin K is to stock up on those greens!
Also because Vitamin K is fat soluble, it stores the vitamin in your
body when you don't have it so its not as though you need to eat it in
abundance. Vitamin K defeciency is rare but is needed a lot for
newborns as well.

Check out these websites for more info:

hope this helps

I have a provisional table of vitamin K values (micrograms per 100
gram serving) which you can also get from the USDA. I have selected
foods people usually consume (excluding spices and herbs which are
used in very small amounts) and are high in Vitamin K. Remember that
these values are per 3 1/2 ounce serving, which may be rather large
for some foods (nuts) while, appropriate for others (vegetables). The
Recommended Dietary Allowances for Vitamin K for adult males is 80 mcg
and for adult females 65 mcg. The following list of foods are from
highest to lowest food sources, grouped in ranges of values as
