Many people take vitamins for restless legs syndrome. Because this
condition often coincides with iron deficiency, kidney failure or
diabetes, several remedies involving taking vitamins or supplements
have become popular. Some of these restless leg syndrome vitamin plans
are recommended by doctors; others are at this point only speculated
to help.
Iron
Its important to get your doctor’s opinion on iron before you go
mega-dosing, because too much iron can cause serious health problems.
Ask your doctor to check your blood level of ferritin. While you may
not be anemic, you may have low levels of ferritin, which is essential
for storage of iron in the blood. Your doctor can help you determine
how much iron you will need to take to bring your ferritin levels back
up to normal. This may also relieve your restless legs syndrome
symptoms.

Folic Acid
This B vitamin regulates nerve function. Because nerve damage or
malfunction is related to restless legs syndrome, a supplement of B
vitamins and folate in particular may help support your nervous
system, relieving your symptoms. Again, don’t self-diagnose. Ask your
doctor to check your blood for signs of B vitamins deficiency. You can
take 400 micrograms a day without worrying, but anything over that
amount is best taken under your doctor’s supervision, since too much
folic acid can overshadow symptoms of anemia.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E supports your circulatory system. For those who suspect
their restless legs syndrome is related to circulation problems—such
as those who suffer from diabetes and restless legs syndrome—this is a
sensible supplement to try. However, most doctors tend to think this
supplement is not effective in treating RLS.

Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium
Many people think they have restless leg syndrome, but later discover
the real problem is leg cramping. Calcium, magnesium and potassium
supplements will relieve leg cramps, so you might want to try this
trio of vitamins to rule out the possibility of a misdiagnosis.
