Bananas are a rich source of nutrients. The most abundant minerals
and vitamins found in bananas are Vitamin B6, vitamin C and
potassium. Other nutrients include vitamin A, Vitamin B including
thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, and folic acid. In addition, it also
contains proteins, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, manganese and
trace amount of iron and zinc.
In summary, one medium banana contains 105 calories including 1.29
grams of protein, and 3.1 grams of dietary fiber. Specifically, a
medium banana contains 23% of the daily requirement of potassium,
41% of Vitamin B6, 33% of the vitamin C requirement, and 23% of
required fiber intake. Due to high sugar content in bananas,
people with diabetes should avoid this fruit.

Bananas come in a variety of sizes and colors like yellow, purple
and even red. They are mostly eaten raw and green ones are
generally cooked first. Bananas are also fried and served as
desserts with ice cream.The distinct taste of banana is due to the
presence of isoamyl acetate.

In addition to the fruit, the flower from the banana plant is used
for cooking soups and curries in South India. Some families also
cook the core of the plant’s trunk. Incidentally the juice from
the core of the trunk is sued to treat kidney stones and high

Bananas contain a bundle of energy, and have a lot of health
benefits, which are listed below.

It is helpful for digestion, and helpful in diarrhea and
constipation.

symptoms in women.

Bananas are useful also in the treatment of arthritis and gout.
For people deficient in iron, bananas should be an important part
of their diet as they stimulate the production of hemoglobin.

Bananas are also a good choice of fruit for people suffering from
ulcer, as it helps neutralize the acidity of gastric juices.
Since it is high in potassium, it is good for people suffering
with hypertension.

Most of us do not know that bananas also contain tryptophan which
is required for serotonin synthesis in the body. Serotonin is an
important neurotransmitter which regulates moods and sleep
patterns.
All fruits are loaded with nutrients. The list includes watermelon
and papaya, both, high in Vitamin C, carotenoids and fiber,
oranges and grapefruit also loaded with vitamin C, folate and
fiber, apples and apricots, rich in vitamin C and iron, and many
more.
